season preview

The Marcus High School Marauders return a strong pitching staff and welcome a talented group of newcomers in 2017. Marcus returns three starters on the mound, Reed Osborn, Michael Leaumont and Cayden Lopez. Leamont, a Louisiana-Lafayette commit, stands 6-foot-3 with an athletic delivery and good sinking action on his fastball to go with solid off-speed stuff. Several newcomers will also help secure innings for the Marauders. Justin Kleinsorge spent the fall playing quarterback for the football team but looks to make an impact on the mound this spring. While sophomore Blake Mayfield has lots of upside and feel for two pitches. With the new pitch count rule coming into play this season, look for Marcus to have one of the deeper pitching staffs in the area.

Shortstop Jimmy Glowenke, a Dallas Baptist commit, will anchor a very young line-up for Marcus. Glowenke, a senior, hit .373 last year and shows advanced, all-around actions and arm strength on defense. Junior Will Harrison will most likely be next to Glowenke at second base. Mitchell Dickson, an uncommitted junior, shows a lot of upside behind the plate and will be counted on to handle the pitching staff. The Marauders will be tested early in the season as they play a very tough non-conference schedule, but look for them gain valuable experience that should pay-off once they start their district schedule.
