season preview

In a year when the pitch count rule comes into effect, Troy returns a surplus of varsity innings from last years staff, as well as a solid defense. The Trojans will be led on the mound by two seniors, Jaiden Beck and Tyler Sultimeier. Beck, a Hill Junior College commit, was last years District MVP and is efficient at pitching to contact and missing barrells. Sultimeier is a 6-foot-4 right-hander with some upside and good movement on his fastball. Bryce Wilkey is another senior arm that the Trojans will count on for valuable innings this year. Wilkey was an Honorable Mention All-District selection last year and also plays first base.

Troy returns a number of starters on defense. Shortstop Lane Bolin was a 1st Team All District selection in 2016 and will be counted on to anchor the middle of the field and provide a valuable left-handed bat in the line-up. Senior Tanner Hernandez will likely hold down one of the other two infield spots. The right-handed trio of Beck, Sultimeier and Wilkey could all see time at first base depending on their pitching rotations. Behind the plate will be A.J. Gonzalez, a hard-nosed competitor that can also get on the mound. The front runners for the outfield positions will be senior Xavier Anderson, junior Jayden Hernandez and recent transfer, senior Diego Martinez. Anderson was 2nd Team All-District selection last year. Sevaral newcomers could see their name in the line-up in 2017, look for sophomore Mason Dubois to compete for time on the infield.
