Texas 2019 Class Rankings

By Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

It's been a long, action-packed fall season throughout Texas. Much has happened over the course of the two-plus months since the launch of PBR Texas, all of which is reflected in our comprehensive 2019 Texas Top 50.

This is the first PBR Texas ranking of the 2019 class, with updates to come in the early spring, after our three winter events and before the high school season kicks off. To see our complete list of events click here.

Since its inception in 2005, the Prep Baseball Report has evolved into one of the country's biggest and most respected independent scouting services, with a singular focus of providing comprehensive coverage in every state we are in. The mission of the Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school baseball and, ultimately, help prep athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level.

The Prep Baseball Report is the No. 1 resource for high school baseball in each state we cover through our variety of events, boots-on-the-ground scouting staff, daily coverage, and multimedia platforms. Our multimedia platforms and events work in tandem, ultimately creating the most powerful source of high school baseball promotion in each state. While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

Taking the #1 ranking in our 2019 class is shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. from Colleyville Heritage HS. The 6-foot, 165-pound Oklahoma recruit, was really impressive this fall showcasing his all-around, high-level tools. It is not often that we see a player at his age with all five tools, but Witt is already a household name among scouts in the area.

Coming in at #2 is right-handed pitcher Matthew Thompson (Cypress Ranch HS). The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Texas A&M recruit has a high ceiling with a quick, easy arm stroke, low-90's velocity and a wipe-out slider.

Two-way talent Sanson Faltine III (Ft. Bend Travis HS), comes in at #3. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound, Texas recruit is an all-around athletic prospect. Faltine shows advanced actions at shortstop, has power in the bat, a mid-to-upper 80's fastball and a wipe-out slider.

Jared Southard (Rouse HS) has our #4 ranking. The strong, 6-foot-2, 200-pound, Texas recruit has outstanding feel for three pitches with his velocity sitting in the high-80's. Southard is also strong right-handed hitter with pop in the bat. Rounding out the top five is left-handed pitcher Bryson Lucas (College Station HS). The TCU recruit had a very good summer and pitches in the mid-to-upper-80's with an athletic delivery.
