Texas vs. California: Day 2 & 3 Pitchers

Toby Nicholas Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

ARLINGTON, TX - Texas ultimately won the States Play Series over California, two games to one. With a short turnaround time between the 7 pm game on Saturday and the 11 am start time on Sunday, we will bring you two pieces of content in the next two days, beginning with pitchers from games two and three.

PITCHERS

RHP Mason Ornelas (L.D. Bell HS) 5-foot-11, 195-pounds. The Texas A&M commit works from a high-¾ slot with a low effort delivery, and a simple, clean arm swing. Sinking fastball at 87-90, topping out at 91, induces a number of ground ball outs. Changeup was 78-81 mph, left it up in the first inning, but the pitch has a chance to plus as he throws it with fastball arm speed from the same window. Breaking ball is more of a slurve at 70-73 with 10/4 shape and gradual depth. Allowed a run in the first on a bloop single, but had a really sharp second inning, getting two ground ball outs and a punchout on a slider.
