Prep Baseball Report

Top Uncommitted 2023 Prospects

PBR TX Scouting Staff

TEXAS - As we get thru the HS tournament season and head into district, it’s time to look back at some of the uncommitted 23’s that we have watched during tournament season. There is a good blend of arms and hitters on this list. Every year there are guys that take a big jump and see their recruitment take off.  Here are some guys that have the potential to have that happen to them this year.

Dylan Schlaegel OF / RHP / Mansfield Legacy, TX / 2023

Schlaegel put on a show in all facets at the Fort Worth Preseason ID.  The bouncy Outfielder ran a 6.67 60, had exit velocities up to 99 and was 93 from the outfield.  His athleticism is evident in everything he does. The speed translates on the field and he should have no problem sticking in Center at the next level.  At the plate, he has above average bat speed and has shown the ability to drive the ball out of the yard. The Future Games participant impresses every time we see him, and it is only a matter of time before the offers begin to roll in.

Harrison Rosar RHP / Prosper, TX / 2023

In the fall he was 1st team all district QB for the Eagles Football team, during the preseason he hopped on the mound and opened some eyes.  He was 86-88 T89 with a 71-74 mph breaking ball. He has an athletic delivery with good tempo and short arm action that makes the fastball play up.  He had a presence and confidence about him on the mound that every coach looks for.  While there is a stable of arms at Prosper HS, with Rosar’s stuff and his demeanor I would bet on him throwing some big innings for them this year.

Mac Rose RHP / 3B / Rockwall, TX / 2023

Rose has a legitimate chance to be a two way player at the next level, but his highest upside is on the mound. He has a very efficient delivery and a clean arm path. The righty features a fastball that sits in the 88-90 range and in our viewing topped out at 91. He is aggressive on the mound and attacks the hitters with good command of the FB. He also has a breaking ball he throws in the mid 70's that he can throw for strikes or bury to put a hitter away. Rose has a good build, and should be able to carry a good workload.  There could be some velocity gains if he was to focus on pitching.

Offensively, he has a compact stroke with power to all fields.  He can wear out the LC gap or turn on mistakes and punish them.  Behind the plate, he has soft hands as a receiver and does a good job of helping his pitchers out.  He throws well and consistently throws in the 2.0 range.

Dasan Harris OF / Plano East, TX / 2023

Harris caught our eye with his athleticism and bat speed.  The LHH has some quick hands in the batter’s box, and on a 2 strike swing showed them off flicking a ball the opposite way over the LF’s head for a double.  He is high waisted and has bounce in everything he does.  There is still some strength to be added as well.  He is a good runner in the 6.7-6.8 range and will be one to follow for sure this spring.

Kyle Bade LHP / OF / Plano Senior, TX / 2023

When you talk to HS coaches in district 6-6A, Bade is mentioned often about his ability to pitch and his competitiveness.  His FB was  84-86 T87 with some ASR.  He commanded it well and had good command to the Arm Side.  He threw two breaking balls, the curve was more of a show pitch he commanded well and the slider was his put away pitch.  He also showed a CH that he threw to keep the RHH’s honest. The slider was his best pitch and he relied on it anytime he needed an out.

Tanner Sever SS / 2B / Coppell , TX / 2023

Sever is a LHH infielder who at the plate can hit the ball with authority to all fields. He has  a present gap to gap approach, but there is some pull side power he is starting to tap in to.  He handles the bat well and can do a lot of things for his offense. Defensively, Sever is a sure handed 2B/3B with avg. arm. He has played mostly 2B in his HS career, but has the versatility to handle 3rd as well. Tanner is a High IQ player who does all the little things right. Once he taps into his power more, he is going to really take off.

Tyler White RHP / 3B / Southlake Carroll, TX / 2023

White is a 6'4 RHP who is a big piece of the Carroll Baseball Team.  He sits in the upper 80's and can get in the low 9's. Has above average command and can hit every quadrant with his FB.  He also flashes a sharp short breaking ball.  He throws a CH as well that he throws with the same conviction as his FB. White is also one of the top Punters in the country and has a chance to Punt at the next level

Samson Pugh SS / RHP / Lake Creek, TX / 2023

Athletic RHP, fastball sat 85-88 with glove-side command when we saw him this tournament season. The SL was 77 and the CB 69-73, both flashing swing and miss. Pugh understands how to pitch and has a good feel for spin on his offspeed pitches

Jack Haag RHP / Lake Creek, TX / 2023

Haag sat 84-87 mph with glove-side command in his two innings of work with a 71-75 mph curveball when we saw him in tournament season. Haag worked backwards most of the outing, landing his curveball in the zone glove-side and then also showing he can bury it for swings and misses later in the count.

Carson Kimball RHP / 3B / The Woodlands, TX / 2023

RHP from a ¾ slot sitting 87-89 T90 with command to both sides of plate, SL 76-78 (up to 2869 rpm) flashing swing and miss. Kimball has had an uptick in velocity since we saw him last in showcase setting.

Andrew Hilton RHP / OF / Katy, TX / 2023

Hilton started off the year with 5.2 shutout IP against San Antonio Reagan with 3 K and 4 H allowed. FB sat 85-88 T89 with command to glove-side & flashing swing and miss at top of zone and CB 69-72 landing in the zone for strikes. Hilton made a jump over the summer and looks to be continuing that to start 2022.

Bryce Dwyer C / 3B / Grand Oaks, TX / 2023

We were able to see Dwyer early this seasn and he showed his offensive and defensive skills all game long. He had a well-hit single to the left side that he had to leg out, showing his athleticism down the line. Defensively, he caught a runner stealing at 3rd early on and showed his ability to block a variety of pitches throughout the game.
