Trackman Sessions: Pitching Standouts

Phil Haig
Texas Scouting Director

KILGORE, T.X.- On Wednesday, our staff held a Trackman Session to offer some of the states top prospects a chance to participate in a some what of a live setting. Today we take a look at some of the highly regarded pitching prospects in attendance, and some of the data collected during their session.

PITCHERS

Tyler Lee 1B / RHP / Hallsville, TX / 2021

Texas A&M recruit, Lee has a FB that naturally cuts, has high spin and has a very unique Horizontal break for a RHP fastball, which is a good thing. Pairs that with a slider that plays with the fastball really well. The slider is also one with high spin characteristics and shows late depth and caused awkward takes and swings.

Sam Peterson RHP / 1B / Lindale , TX / 2022

One of the standout arms of the day. Showed a fastball that that has a unique horizontal movement and plays like a true cutter at 85 mph. Repeatedly got swings and misses at the top of the zone and struck out 5 in short work. The breaking ball showed sharp action and depth at times, and played well with the fastball. The ceiling is high for Peterson and look for him to make major jumps soon.

Garet Boehm SS / RHP / Hutto, TX / 2023

Showed much improvement from the last time the PBR staff had seen Boehm. He was able to show his natural athleticism within the delivery and is starting to gain the velocity, up to 87, we thought would start to come. Boehm is still refining the breaking ball and changeup. Look for more jumps to come down the road.

Wyatt Tucker RHP / Douglas, TX / 2020

Texas A&M Recruit. Tucker showed a heavy 2 seam fastball with late arm side action and depth. When he would flash his best ones, they went straight down and created hitting issues. Tucker was able to pair the 2 seam with a slider that shows high spin numbers and late glove side action when it was right.

Brandon Levy RHP / SS / Parkway, LA / 2023

Up to 89 on the day and showed the ability to throw the fastball to both sides of the plate as well as elevate and get swings and misses at the top of the zone.

Austin Green SS / RHP / Spring Hill, TX / 2020

Weatherford recruit, A power 2020 arm up to 93 on the day with some effort in the delivery but showed the ability to get swings and misses with the FB at the top of the zone as well as get some uncomfortable swings on the breaking ball. The breaking ball was inconsistent but would flash swing and miss when it was right.

Grayson Murray The Brook Hill, TX / 2022

Murray has high upside on the mound and was able to flash promise on the day. Still has plenty of room to physically mature but can see a bright future ahead of him. Murray has loose arm and gets down the mound with ease, while hiding the ball with a natural high front side.

Diego Luzardo RHP / OF / La Porte, TX / 2023

Houston recruit, Showed a quick arm and was able to show a fastball up 87 mph. Striding slightly across his body he is able to create hitting issues with his natural deception and easy delivery. Luzardo will only continue to improve and develop with time.

Jeb Drewery LHP / OF / Hallsville, TX / 2021

Texas State recruit, Drewery has a hard nosed competitive streak to him and seems to truly enjoy the competition. Showed his ability to throw the fastball to both sides of the plate and vary his temps within his delivery. Also changed speeds well and got weak contact on the day.

Cooper Strawn RHP / 3B / Farmersville, TX / 2023

Strawn is a physically imposing presence on the mound. There is some stiffness down the mound but was able to repeat his release point well. Did generate some swings and misses at the top of the zone. The breaking ball will continue to refine with time but would flash some with depth that played well with the fastball.

Elliott Foreman C / RHP / New Diana, TX / 2023

More so known for his catching ability and ease of receiving but today he hopped on the bump. Pitches with a short arm action similar to the action he throws with as a catcher. Showed a FB up to 86 mph with slight cut. Challenged hitters in the zone with all of his pitches.

Aiden Sims RHP / OF / Forney, TX / 2024

A promising young arm that showed the ability to throw quality strikes and command his fastball well. Shows a bright future as he continues to grow and mature.

Harrison Wall SS / 3B / Mount Pleasant, TX / 2024

The last of the 2024 arms of the day, is another one to follow through his development. Was able to show command of the fastball in the zone to both sides of the plate. Bright future ahead for Wall.

Drew Dyke OF / RHP / Mt Pleasant, TX / 2024

Another young arm that showed a bright future. There is still plenty of room to develop but showed a fastball up to 82 and promise down the road.

Cole Brady RHP / Central Heights, TX / 2021
