TEXAS, USA - It’s been roughly four months since we updated our Texas 2020 Class Rankings. With a full slate of Prep Baseball Report Texas summer events (Underclass Trials, Texas Limited Series, Underclass Games, PBR Future Games, etc.), combined with our coverage of national events, high school and travel-ball games, we are proud to bring you the updated rankings for the junior class. There is a wealth of talent in the Lone Star State, and as the depth and scope of this class has begun to take shape, we have expanded the rankings to 250 players. There are a number of changes, including a new number one player. Here is a quick look at the top five along with some notable risers:

+ Taking the No. 1 spot in the 2020 class is RHP Jared Kelley (Refugio HS). The TCU commit has solidified himself as one of the top arms in the country this summer, standing out among his peers at multiple national events. At 6-foot-1, 207-pounds, Kelley creates premium velocity with a low effort delivery. On multiple occasions this summer he has pitched in the mid-90’s, and been up to 97 mph. His breaking ball ranges between 78-83 mph with more lateral cut-slider shape, and he mixes in a 78-80 mph changeup.

+ Holding the No. 2 spot is RHP/SS Masyn Winn (Kingwood HS). At the Area Code Games, for the Rangers Scout Team, Winn brought his intensity and electric arm strength to the bump, and struck out eight batters in an efficient five innings of work. At just 5-foot-9, 165-pounds, the Stanford commit ran his fastball up to 95 mph on multiple occasions, and sat 90-93 early on in the outing. The fastball played up even harder with his command of a multi-tier breaking, tight-spinning, 11/5 breaking ball (73-75) that buckled multiple hitters as well as an advanced changeup, thrown with fastball hand speed at 79-82. Winn’s competitiveness stands out on the mound, and he fed off the adrenaline brought on from facing a stacked Midwest White Sox lineup. Though he has a slight pause in the arm stroke, his athleticism allows him to repeat his slot with ease, and pound the bottom of the zone.

+ At No. 3 is LSU commit,  C Drew Romo (The Woodlands HS). At 6-foot-1, 195-pounds, he is ready to catch in the SEC right away, as he is an elite defender with superior hands behind the plate, athletic footwork, quick transfer, and consistent sub-2.0 pop times. The switch-hitter has athletic hands, with easy bat speed and strength from both sides of the plate.

+ At No. 4 is RHP/SS Tanner Witt (Episcopal HS). The top uncommitted player in the Lone Star State was recently at the Area Code Games in Long Beach, Calif., where he showed the ability to flick long, high home runs to left field after doing so in-game on day one. He is balanced and controlled throughout while slightly scooping through the zone on an uphill plane. He demonstrates the ability to use the whole field, but his pull side power is what currently stands out most. He is patient at the plate with strong pitch recognition, and obvious power projection from a simple setup. The 6-foot-6, 190-pound lean athlete moves well on the diamond, and showcases easy lag in the zone.

+ Moving up to No. 5 is SS Cole Foster (Plano Senior HS). Throughout high school season and summer ball, the TCU commit consistently made a name for himself, leaving no doubt as to why he is one of the top players in the 2020 class. At the PBR Limited Series in Houston, he stole the show over four games for the Dallas Tigers. The switch-hitter showcases rhythm and power from both sides of the plate, to go with smooth actions and athleticism at shortstop. Perhaps most notable about Foster is the confidence that he exudes that seems to elevate the game of those around him.

Notable Risers

No. 6 RHP/SS Travis Sthele (Reagan HS), No. 14 RHP Storm Hierholzer (Lake Travis HS), No. 15 OF Elijah Nunez (Arlington Martin HS), and No. 16 SS Orlando Salinas (King HS).
