TOP 10
1. Lash Henderson OF / RHP / Prestonwood Christian Academy, TX / 2027Henderson holds on to the number 1 spot in Texas as we wrap up 2024. The 6' 4’’ outfielder is one of the most toolsed up players in the country. Henderson ran a blistering 6.52 in July at Future Games and shows some of the biggest raw power in the class. He continues to make strides on becoming a complete hitter. He shows the willingness to use the whole field and can track spin. He is only going to continue to get better as he grows into his body more. Henderson also puts in the work and he is going to keep getting better as he progresses. Has a chance to be special.

2. Grant Sperandio RHP / SS / Memorial, TX / 2027Sperandio is the top 2 way prospect in the state. The future Texas Longhorn is another high end athlete who has tools for days. He is a sub 7 runner that throws in the mid 90’s from the outfield and shows off some above average raw power. But Sperandio may be even better on the mound. Been up to 94 at Lakepoint and can really spin the baseball. Is a strike thrower and has pitched a lot of big innings already.

3. Jake Ivey LHP / Gunter, TX / 2027Jake had a monster freshman season that saw him start a game in the state tournament for Gunter. It’s an easy mover down the mound with a clean arm stroke and a fastball that will already get into the low 9’s. He shows a feel for spin and can miss bats at a high rate. Ivey is a good blend of present stuff/success but still has tons of projection to get you excited. It will be fun to watch him this spring.

4. Lubin Rincon SS / Shadow Creek, TX / 2027Rincon has really made an impression on myself and the Prep Baseball staff the last month. The sophomore shortstop built off his impressive showing at State Games and carried it over to Wildcatters weekend. The projectable 6 ‘’2 LHH SS is an easy mover and ran a 6.69. His actions and arm (90+ inf velo) should make him a no doubter to stick at short long term. At the plate, Rincon has lil wasted movement to go with good rhythm. He has a classic lefty swing and shows the ability to drive the ball with authority to all fields. The upside is immense and will surely become one of the more scouted players gearing up to August 1st of next year.
|
5. Drake Hawpe OF / Liberty Christian, TX / 2027Hawpe was another one that had a lot of success as a freshman at the varsity level and carried over through the summer. He looks the part, standing 6’ 3’’ 190 lbs, with a frame that is going to stack on a lot of good weight. Then when you get to the game, the first thing you notice with Hawpe is the approach. He has a plan at the plate and can impact the baseball using the whole field. Hawpe is part of a Liberty Christian program that is really got some talent running through there right now.
|
6. Ethan Armbruster RHP / C / Westlake, TX / 2027Armbruster is another 2 way talent that had a big freshman season. The catcher/pitcher really shined for Westlake behind the plate this past season. Good athlete back there, who can catch and throw. The frame has a lot of room to gain strength as well and should grow into at least average power at the plate. On the mound, Armbruster has a loose arm and can run up into the upper 80’s with an easy operation. He uses a 4 pitch mix and every time I have seen him he has been lights out. Westlake is replacing a lot on the mound this year, it will be interesting to see how the Chaps use him.
|
7. George Ferguson RHP / 3B / Abilene, TX / 2027The first West Texas product on the list, Ferguson is your traditional big Texas righty that has an intimidating presence on the mound. He gets into the low 90’s regularly, but he commands the zone already. He can pitch to both sides of the plate, and throws a nice slider off the fastball. I am excited to see him in January when he comes in throws in our Preseason All State showcase.
|
8. Sebastian Castillo SS / Byron Nelson, TX / 2027Castillo had one of the best freshman seasons in the state last year for Byron Nelson. In a very tough district, Castillo played lock down defense and was one of the better hitters in the district. Plays with confidence, and the game is just slower for him than most kids his age. He looks to be in total control every time I see him. He showed good gap power as a freshman, and I am excited to see what jump that makes his sophomore season. He is also really good on the mound, and has shown the ability to win a big game if needed.
|
9. Grant Stafford SS / 2B / Lufkin, TX / 2027Stafford’s stoic, professional look in the box where he displayed advanced barrel accuracy and awareness, was that of a player much older. Athletic in the box from a square, slightly crouched setup, the hands take easy, slight separation before driving the barrel through the zone working short-to-long with what appears to be a real chance to hit. The defensive work at shortstop was much of the same as he showcased a polished look with sure-handedness that will provide an avenue for sticking at the premium position long-term. A gamer with tools, Stafford appears to (quietly) expect success, and combined with quality athleticism, he has the foundation to build on that college coaches will crave. - Shooter Hunt

10. Mason Duncan RHP / OF / Flower Mound, TX / 2027If there is one thing that we know, it is that every year Coach Wallace is going to have a new arm in the stable for the Flower Mound Jaguars. Last year, it was Cooper Harris who went on to the Future Games and is now a Longhorn Commit. This year, sophomore Mason Duncan is the next man up. Big physical righty that can already get into the low 90’s and is a strike thrower. He can manipulate the fastball and shows a slider with swing and miss potential. I will get an up close look at him in week 2 this spring, when we watch Flower Mound in the Prep Baseball Texas Invitational.

QUICK HITS ON THE 2027 CLASS
- At 11 and 12 in the state are two of the highest upside prospects in Texas. Outfielders, Cash Clayton and Lane Johnson are both long lean and can really impact the baseball. Both could be big risers moving into the spring
- Excited to see where Ben Garrett is in the Spring. Moves well already for being 6’ 7’’
- Best collection of Central Texas talent I have seen in one class since I have been at Prep Baseball. Guys all over the rankings sheet from Austin, San Antonio, and BUDA!!!
- This class is going to have some real high velocity guys. The ‘26 class is special on the mound, but this ‘27 class is similarly talented but really physical. If they maximize like the ‘26 class has, the top end arms are going to be fun.
- Some High Schools that stood out with real depth of talent in this class: Byron Nelson, Liberty Christian, Lake Creek, Buda Johnson, Magnolia and Grand Oaks.
