TX HS Committed Scout Blog: Week 4
March 19, 2025
The Texas Scout Blog is where you will be able to find all the notes and video from our boots-on-the-ground scouting team on the top players we see over the course of the spring season. This season, we will have separate scout blogs; one for uncommitted prospects, and one for committed prospects.
Below, you can read up on the committed standouts from week 4 of high school play…
WEEK 4
Colby Sommer
Position: 2B
School: Southlake Carroll High School (2025)
Commitment: Shelton State
Colby Sommer, a Shelton State recruit, got the Dragons going early with a home run in the 1st inning. He’s part of a deep senior class at Southlake Carroll and stands out with his compact, strong frame. Sommer profiles as a player who can bring some juice to the second base position, showing both power and versatility. His ability to contribute offensively makes him an important piece for the Dragons this season.
Ethan Baiotto
Position: RHP
School: Southlake Carroll High School (2025)
Commitment: Tennessee
Ethan Baiotto, a Tennessee commit, was sharp in his outing on Friday for the Dragons. His fastball ranged from 93-94 mph early, topping out at 95 mph, and settled between 90-94 mph later in the game. His slider sat between 82-85 mph and was really sharp in the middle innings. Baiotto showed the ability to sink his fastball and threw quality changeups to lefties. In a game where the wind was blowing out, Baiotto punched out 10 batters and generated weak contact on the ground. His final line: 6 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 4 BB, and 10 K’s. With his performance, the Dragons continue to look like one of the top teams to beat in DFW.
Davis Perkins
Position: RHP/SS
School: Southlake Carroll High School (2025)
Commitment: McLennan Community College
Davis Perkins, a McLennan Community College signee, came in and shut it down for the Dragons on Friday. Just 3 weeks removed from Hamate surgery, Perkins is currently focusing on throwing and has added depth to an already deep pitching staff. His fastball sat between 89-91 mph, and he complemented it with a slider at 80 mph. Perkins is a good mover on the mound and a twitchy athlete who will continue to throw harder as he gets stronger. While he is still a few weeks away from hitting, getting his arm back has made the pitching staff that much stronger.
Bryce Wells
Position: C
School: Smithson Valley High School (2025)
Commitment: Weatherford College
Bryce Wells, a Weatherford College commit, had a strong performance last week for the Rangers, collecting a pair of hits, including an RBI double to right field. Wells has a sturdy frame that allows him to generate power to all fields. As an athletic defender, he shows solid strength and defensive abilities behind the plate, making him a reliable contributor both offensively and defensively.
