USA Prime Scout Day: Quick Hits

TEXAS - On Saturday, September 7 we hosted USA Prime Scout Day at Dallas Baptist University. Position players went through a pro-style workout where they ran a 60, threw from defensive positions and took BP. Following BP, pitchers threw bullpens where TrackMan data was recorded. Below, we take a closer look at some of the standouts from the day.

Luke Tucker SS / 3B / Krum High School, TX / 2026Good build/frame to add strength. Avg athleticism, moves well. Defensively, has a chance to be a good defender in future. Shows actions, avg 1st step, feet work well getting body into position to field baseball. Showed good hands, can improve fielding baseball out front, presently lets the ball get deep occasionally. Opportunity to improve playing thru baseball with feet as well. Project him moving to corner in future. Arm works, carry to throw is present. Separated himself at the plate. Showed ability to barrel baseball with solid contact. Fringe avg raw power present now, chance for plus raw in future. Pull approach presently, can improve using all fields.

Project build, avg width to shoulders and back. Needs strength, along with adding weight in future. Defensively moves well to baseball, avg defender in OF. Throws show carry. Good approach to hit with solid contact. Will develop some power and ability to get to gaps with strength.
Pitching: Arm works well. Sound delivery, gets quick with front side at times. Front side opening early causes arm drag and command/control problems, when on time, solid in zone. FB … shows arm side run, bore. When down, quality pitch. CB … solid avg action now with depth to finish, can spin baseball. Swing and miss action. Chance for plus CB in future. 2700 avg spin rate. Delivery must be firmed for success.

M. Trent Johnson OF / 2B / Krum, TX / 2027Lean, long, lanky build. Lacking in present strength. Moves well. 7.05 60. Defensive versatility present. See as avg defender, moves well to baseball with developing actions. Needs to develop arm strength. Solid approach to hit with line drive contact, finds barrel. Hoping for power to come with added strength and physical maturity. Nice player to watch develop.

Solid approach to hit. Solid contact off barrel. Like the upside to bat/power combo with strength/maturity. Follow progress.

Cael Rogers C / OF / Flower Mound, TX / 2027Solid build showing some strength to lower. Good frame to add strength in future. Defensively…Catcher, receives fine, handles glove. Avg glove to hand exchange. Feet work setting to throw, lack quickness. Throws show carry. Best pop time 2.14, will improve with added quickness to feet. Solid swing with ability to find barrel. Power will develop. Like the approach to hit. Like the makeup and approach to the game. Watch progress.

Logan Lawson RHP / OF / Marcus, TX / 2026Good build/frame with room to add strength. Well proportioned. Arm works well with full circle. Solid delivery, repeats. FB with quality down plane, avg life at times with sink and run. Slider, quality action when landed. Gets under at times. Solid spin. CB, inconsistent pitch, struggled to land release point. CH, developing. Upside, good build, arm works, FB with life, slider shows avg action. Fun to watch him develop over next 2 years.
