2025 Top 10 Uncommitted Player Rankings

This 2025 Class has seen more "late bloomer" type prospects see their game take shape over the past year than almost all of our previous years in Utah with Prep Baseball. With the top players playing in the Future Games as rising juniors, and many who were not selected or on the bubble, blossomed over this past year, to make the cut for Team Utah at the West Coast Games. The resiliency of this class has stood tall throughout with 34 college commitments to date (and counting).

Now, we dive into these 2025 Rankings that saw minimal movement throughout, but did see a handful of players climb up not only the Top 10, but make their way up the Rankings outside the Top 10. This week we will continue to highlight the top prospects in the Beehive State with the Top “Dozen” Uncommitted Prospects that are still on the board. Stay tuned as we continue to push our 2025 Class beyond this week to help each Uncommitted player find a college home as we approach the upcoming Spring Season.

*We are constantly on the lookout for commitments from prospects throughout the entire 2025 class.  If we have missed one please feel free to reach out so we can get that added to the database.

Utah 4A Player of the Year!

West Coast Games

The surprise position player of the event for me! After posting a .400 BA as a sophomore this past spring, Reed flew under my radar for a myriad of reasons, but after attending the CBA Scout Day, he caught my attention with an EV of 100.8 and his ability to square up the baseball and find the sweet spot. Built like a ball player w/strong well defined features and a strong lower ½ that he utilizes well in his swing. The body shows rhythm and timing as he gets his hands into the proper position to load the bat, in getting to a solid 45 and then sinks into his legs and shows plus bat speed in firing his lower ½ and core, to get the knob inside the baseball. Shows barrel release and acceleration through contact into a firm front side and stays behind the baseball to get his hands extended and looks to do damage with violent intentions. At the WCG’s, Reed went off at the plate and finished the 3 games 7-9 with 5 2B’s and a 3B while creating energy and anticipation when he stepped into the box, that something was about to happen! The only 2025 on the roster, and he played well beyond his age class in performance and how he carried himself and went about his business. Reed also turned in an 84 mph OF arm velo and one that I can see making the jump near 90 in the next couple of years. Plays hard and was aggressive on the bases and looked for the extra base hit out of the box. A definite name to follow in the state over the next 2 years and one that excited me enough to place at #6 in our next 2025 state rankings release after his showing in Las Vegas. Definitely a D1 bat moving forward!

6/17/23

Another surprise, that I was not able to watch in length throughout the ‘23 spring, Reed put up a .400 batting avg during the spring and showed projs raw power, in putting up an event best 101.5 exit velocity and 84 mph arm strength from RF. A semi spread out and square stance at the plate, Reed loads the bat in a solid 45 degree angled launch, and fires his hands through the baseball with a quick bat and efficient swing plane with natural strength to impact the baseball. Is a bit upright and spins through the ball, Reed can and needs to get into his lower ½ better, to utilize his full impact potential and to drive pitches in the bottom part of the zone. A bit raw in his movement patterns in the OF on approach to the ball, the footwork can be synced up better, yet does show fringe to avg online arm strength with flashes of one hop accuracy. A 7.12/60 and fringe overall runner, with added lower ½ leg strength and further physical projections, Reed can and should projs to be an avg raw runner with an overall solid gate to run.

The arm that came in and made the loudest impact as well as velocity improvement from the right side than any one pitcher at the event. Iacono, a former Future Gamer last summer sat 86-88 at LakePoint and touched 89 at one point last summer, came into this preseason event in mid-season form, based on our previous looks. With a FB that touched 91 and was the best of the event, it begs the question as to where the FB will go this year, headed into his senior year this next fall. The delivery was clean and easy with a quality arm stroke and solid ext. out front. The FB with a max spin of 2,362, also tunneled while the CB/SLV 73-79 at a spin max of 2,570 and avg’ed 2,483. All quality metrics with both pitches. Now comes the fun part, how to maximize their usage in a game and how they play in different parts of the zones vs hitters?! Iacono also showed an effective CH 80-83 and killed the spin to 1,950, giving him potentially 3 avg to solid avg pitched in time to work with. With one D1 offer in hand, there are sure to be many others coming this spring and summer!

7/31/23

2023 PBR Future Games

Strong and built like Sonny Gray. Strong lower ½ with arm and hand speed to project his current strength to a low 90’s FB over the next one to two years. A flexible compact high kick to his delivery, Iacono gathers with balance throughout and features a clean HTQ arm stroke with proper arc and acceleration. Gets good ext. out front and uses his lower ½ well to drive the slope and create plane for a 6’ RH’er. The FB 85-88 at the Future Games, as he worked comfortably at 85 with 2000+ spin. The FB shows late sink below the thigh and created S/M’s to the bottom ½ of the zone. The CB 69-73 can be a little harder with repeated FB arm speed. The shape and tilt is present to create added tightness and velo. Needs to develop the CH and add a soft 3rd pitch to the mix to keep LHH’s off the FB. Really like the delivery and arm stroke with current FB velo to project a ceiling of a nationally ranked JC/High D2/mid-major D1 type player. The best is yet to come!

10/30/22

A young RHP that I'm looking forward to following throughout the 2023 spring. Iacono features a med frame to a lean, wiry projectable athletic build. There's definite room for added physical development, as he continues to mature and fill out. The delivery has the makings to project K's, as the base is in place, to continue to tweak some things and become a more efficient mover down the slope. A NWU delivery w/a med arm stroke and breaks over the rubber w/his outer spikes dug into the rubber for leverage and footing. The arm works properly and is clean thru release. The FB 82-85 T86 and has plenty of room to grow into a low 90's arm within a couple of years. Does feature the makings of FB spin of 2,289 max and can see a 2400-2500 in time, as the velocity grows and develops. The CB 73-74 with 2,285 spin max and once again, could reach as high as 2,400-2,500 with added forearm/finger strength. The CB 71-74 can back up at times and loose proper rotation, yet flashes the makings of a TQ SLV arc and shape with depth at times. Needs to continue to finish the pitch and rip the seams. If the tools translate to performance this next spring, Iacono will be on the short list for the PBR Future Games next July.

Scouting Report

7/20/23

Lean wiry skinny build w/need for added weight and size, yet shows the movement patterns necessary to play at the next level. Type of frame and build to proj strength and added size with a dedication to the gym and where that can take his game. From an offensive standpoint, features a conventional bend at the knees, even prop stance with his bat held high and the bat in a wrapped position. As he takes his foot lift and weight transfer from back to front, he coils the bat head a bit, yet gets his hands started to drive inside and through the baseball w/a direct line of attack and impacts the baseball w/a compact short stroke and finds the barrel for an EV max of 94.7, which is good for his age and development. With a barrel adjustment at launch, he will be able to get to velocity as he continues to add weight and size to his frame. Had a solid 2023 season, leading state tournament bound Orem in hitting at .434 in 66 late season AB’s, as he took over a MIF spot and seized the opportunity and was a driving offensive force in turning the Tigers season around with a late season charge in winning 16 of their last 19 game and at one point 15 out of 16. Defensively shows educated feet and cones and gets the baseball with soft hands and a quick transfer from ball to hand and gets rid of the ball w/o any wasted extra steps. The arm is below avg now, yet at 16 yrs old, he has time and strength development on his side to increase his arm strength to avg and playable. 2B type profile that should only continue to get better as he controls the K zone and walked 11 times vs only 6 K’s. A high contact bat that puts the ball in play, which lends to promise a high batting avg now and in the future. Keep an eye on this kid as he continues to develop. Next level talent and athleticism.

Scouting Report

2/24/24

The Utah Valley commit, took a loud round of BP and has really jumped strength wise, since we last saw him at the Top Prospect Games in July of 2022. At 5-11 190, Moffat is built thick and strong and looks the part of a hitter. New to the Top 10 prospects in our preseason HS release at #7, Moffat is the big bat for a quality Woods Cross team, that is the best HS team north of Salt Lake City (5 miles north of the metroplex). Turning in a 6.98/60 with a big EV of 101.8, Moffat also posted quality hand and bat speed data. The ball flies off the bat from an unconventional style to hit. A front foot hitter with very strong hands and upper body strength that creates the data mentioned, I would love to get my hands on him and tweak him to stay back and spin under/through, using his powerful lower ½ more to see where the ball takes off after that. But with two years of ball left at his current level, the sky is high for Moffat, when he takes his talents to the hitter friendly confines of Utah Valley!

Scouting Report

11/25/24

A surprise arm that broke out at the Utah Summer ID in June and caught my attention with his athletic 6-2 185 build and clean arm stroke. When I went looking for my last arm for the West Coast Games, I thought of a raw upside kid that just needs to be around top shelf players and a solid pitching coach, as the ceiling could be a lightning in a bottle type. Lindquist can spin the ball as well as anyone in the state with his FB/CB combo and run the Hester up to 88-89 with ease. This is a 92-93 arm in the making, with an emphasis on the gym and getting the most out of his bullpen settings. Would it surprise me if he just takes off and runs the table? NO! Would it surprise me if he is missed and doesn’t get his opportunity? NO! There is a strong JC/D2 out there who could not afford to miss evaluating this kid, but he is flying under the radar for a variety of reasons and any coach interested in taking a flyer on this kind of arm, needs to get a hold of me ASAP!

Scouting Report

11/25/24

In my opinion the TOP arm that’s flying under the radar and he pitches for one of the iconic coaches in the Beehive State in Pleasant Grove and Future Games coach, Darrin Henry. Haynie has a classic north to south direct online delivery with a clean fluid arm stroke and the ball jumps out of the hand with consistent 87-90 mph velocity. The SL/SLV tunnels well off his FB and breaks sharp at the last minute with a fading pull the string 3rd offering with his CH up. A strike thrower that works off the edges of the plate and finds the pitching part of the K zone with ease. The FB is a low darted offering that stays below the impact zone for potential ground ball type life and effect. Take a look at the video and see the base delivery took from, for a quality pitching coach. Has aptitude and is quiet in nature and soaks in information with a low presence. Although not as physical as some other prospects, there is a quality JC/D2 out there, that would be taking a jump at an arm and delivery that could see big jumps as he needs to get more acquainted with the gym and the rest will take care of itself. Sleeper type that could surprise and surpass arms with bigger stuff and tools!

Scouting Report

11/03/23

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound RHP jumped on the radar over a year ago at the Northern Utah Open and has been a staple attendee at all Utah invite events. A Future Games alum, Brotherson has the classic next level look physically and does things EZ from an operational standpoint. On the radar with D1 schools, Brotherson is command and pitch ability over velocity right now and that’s the ideal barometer to measure and project his 3 pitch arsenal. At the State Games over the weekend, Brotherson reached an 86.7 mph high with his typical low-effort, clean delivery, although he had a scare a half dozen pitches into his 2 inning planned stint. I noticed him shaking his fingers and on the next pitch, the FB velo dropped significantly. I asked if he was okay and he said he felt a slight pop in his elbow. I immediately removed him from the game and it was discovered a day later that he has a slight tear in his UCL and will be undergoing TJ surgery. The timing is that of Oklahoma State and former Gunnison HS pitcher Janzen Keisel in that, he will miss his junior year, but the timetable will allow him to hopefully come back 100% as a senior and I don’t believe it will prevent him from garnering and gaining back the attention he has been getting. We wish Blake all the best in his road to recovery and we will be monitoring his rehab and comeback over the next calendar year.

Positional Profile: RHP/1B Blake is a 15 yr old, 2025 w/considerable upside for physical growth, weight and strength gains. Shows feel for 3 pitches and works the FB/CB in the zone for consistent K's. The type of arm that you should see 2-3 mph increase each year in HS, and should be a 90+ arm within 2 years, and breakout as a senior with big velocity. Can only dream and can't wait to follow him and see his progress every 3-4 months as the years tick by.
Body: 6-2, 155-pounds. Lean, lanky w/a proportioned athletic look. What the look like at 15 yrs old
Delivery: Simple side side and he rocks into a flexible high kick to delivery. Stays online and directional to the plate, and lands firm on a soft toe/flat foot. Gets okay ext now, and finishes into a 3/4 finish out front and is somewhat upright after release and follow through.
Arm Action: RH. Clean takeaway from a medium high glove break. Fluid in back and rotates his arm stroke into the power slot w/a clean arc through a HTQ release point.
FB: T83.6, 82-83 mph. FB has carry and is firm and to the naked eye, he appears to be throwing harder than regestered. The ball exits clean and with the rising life, it jumps on hitters T2324, 2201 average rpm.
CB: 69-70 mph. Controlled with feel to land and hit the mitt. The pitch is a K and he has easy TQ tilt and medium depth. As he throws harder with maturity and the spin increases as well as the velo, the pitch will add depth and harder bite through the zone. T2049, 1998 average rpm.
CH: 72-75 mph. Threw a few that faded with fair depth and bottom. Needs to throw more and gain added confidence. T1617, 1574 average rpm.

9/15/22

Without question the most interesting prospect of the event goes to Brotherson! Featuring a 6-2 165 frame that is what they look like to build from, into a future 190 Lb prospects body. Blake has the type of athleticism in his delivery to throw much harder over the next 3 years of HS baseball. A classic simple rock step and a turn into a flexible balanced high kick and reaches out well and lands on a firm front toe at foot strike and stays directional through release to the plate. The arm is very loose and biomechanically sound. There’s no wasted effort and his head stays still, and he pounded the K zone with all three pitches in a FB, landed CB and fading CH. Advanced for his age and showing abv avg feel to pitch, the FB 83-85 now has carry through the zone and threw K after K, while spinning the FB at 2324 rpm’s. The CB 70-71 has tilt and depth w/feel to land and bury the pitch with ease. It was impressive to see the feel with the pitch and it tunneled well off his FB. The spin should increase as it’s at 2049 now, but with added arm strength and further physical development, there is plenty enough ease to his operation that it’s easy to see a 6-8 and even 8-10 mph increase in the FB as well as potentially 7-8 mph more in the CB. The CH 72-74 (spin of 1617) while killing spin, is spaced well and all 3 pitches create some tough spacing coverage for hitters to cover during an AB. Blake passes the eye test physically with his crystal ball projection and what the future holds for this kid. Already receiving D1 interest off this 1st look and video posted to social media. The future is bright and he will be getting an invite to the All-State Games in late October.

Scouting Report

2022 PBR Future Games

Another Future Gamer and exciting young LHH catcher that should take over behind the plate full time for state power Desert Hills of St. George, UT. The son of former Dixie State catcher, Bryan Wilson, who was a member of the 2024 NJCAA National Champion team, “Willy” has a solid baseball IQ and avg to abv avg instincts. The #2 ranked catcher and #6 overall prospect in his class, features a flatter swing path, that keeps the bat head in the zone a long time, and is tough to K out, as he has a solid eye for the zone and spoils pitches to lengthen out AB’s. Wilson put up a personal best 96.4 exit velo and put up more personal best hand and bat speed data with 25.5 and an astounding 83.6. These are elite numbers for any class or at the next level. His bat speed has jumped 9 mph since last March at the Preseason All-State. Defensively “Willy” blocks and recovers well and still has some growth as a receiver, but has a quick exchange for pop tones in the 2.05-2.16 range and I believe he can cut that down to 1.95-2.05 over the next couple of years. He also scored well in the peak vertical jump at 29.6, suggesting there is spring in his lower ½ for a catcher. Really look forward to following his progress and having him once again at the PBR Future Games next summer!

8/05/22

Wilson, who already had a D1 offer headed into the Future Games, left with a few schools interested in his LHH catcher profile and the ability to play 1B equally well. His father was a catcher on the JUCO National Championship Dixie College team in 2004 and has schooled “Willy” well in the fundamentals. A varsity starter at Desert Hills as a freshman, features a strong eye at the plate, with zone and pitch recognition. A strong LH swing from a spread out and leaned back setup, and hold the bat semi flat over his back shoulder w/a raised back elbow. Wilson drives the knob at the ball, with a flatter swing plane and sprays LD’s to all fields with backspin carry. Behind the dish, he receives well for a young kid, and just needs to get added reps at the varsity level after making way for a senior this past spring. Most likely the job is his moving forward over the next 3 years. A strong arm for his age, and displays 2.05-2.16 pop times, that improve as he continues to fill out and gain added arm strength at maturity. Had some good AB’s at the Future Games and worked deep counts in making pitchers work.

3/06/22

A strong LHH catcher and especially at a young age, captures attention. Much so, that he already has an early extended D1 offer on the table before playing HS baseball. Playing at state power Desert Hills HS will be a plus for his development as he will receive good coaching. A 2.1 range pop time is really good coming from a 15 yr old at present time. A 93.6 EV suggests strength is evident and present as well. With hand and bat speeds of 22.9 and 74.7, there are fast hands to work with at the plate. The swing is a lay it into the zone from a knee kick and the bat stays in the zone on a linear path, smashing LD’s to straightaway CF and to the pull side. One thing is for certain, his bat belongs in the lineup and his development will be aided by an early entry into varsity baseball.

11/20/21

Wilson has bloodlines, as his father was also a catcher at Dixie State in the early 2000's. A solid catch and throw package with a LD hard contact LH bat, that shows considerable potential, even as a '25 to projs beyond the HS level. Shows some quick active feet, with a clean short EZ arm stroke, with online accurate throws, and has a natural feel behind the plate. The bat shows considerable potential, with an online flat through the zone hitting stroke and the ball jumps off the bat with hand and bat speeds of 23.8 and 72.4. The EV high of 92.6 is impressive for an incoming HS freshman and I would like to see him further, as he will be playing for a state power in my backyard at Desert Hills HS.

Scouting Report

11/16/24

The 2023 Future Games alum and most recently, West Coast Games as well. Wilson has strength and drives the ball to the pull side with juice, while shooting backspin LD’s to the middles of the field and into LCF. The bat speed that spiked at 84 at the Future Games has fallen back in line with some of his other events. The swing itself is fluid and stays on plane between 80-90% of the time. As he’s attended events now for a 4th season, the Vizual Edge scores have jumped every year, from 61, to 74, to 82 to now the first 90 score (West Coast Games event leader) on the west coast in the last couple of years. Pilot eyes, coupled with pull side power and stays on plane give some indication of a hitter at the next level. Just needs to learn to stay off pitches up in the zone and be able to spoil the RH’ed back foot CB and LH’ed breaking ball off the plate. With his measurables and the ability to hit velocity, Wilson will make the next jump, with limiting his swing and miss, by making better swing decisions and getting into his lower half more, as he tends to stay tall and rotate linear through the baseball. This also is a tendency on the defensive side, as he is a bend at the waist and needs to increase his hip mobility at the hinges, by really getting his butt into the ground, with a flat back as his hands reach out front on the routing GB. This is also a recommendation on balls to his right and left as well. The run grade and 7.21/60, should improve as he continues to add lower half power after an ACL repair 2 years ago. By increasing his hip flexibility, he should be able to lengthen his stride and get to a 7 flat or better with this focus. A great kid with strong makeup and character and comes from a loving and supportive family!

2/24/24

EZ strength that doesn’t look to get violent at impact for EV #’s, just takes a high knee kick down into a soft foot strike and stays inside the baseball with more of an inside/out type of stroke and looks to drive the baseball to CF to to LCF and when he pulls, it’s because he has mis-timed the pitch and the barrel gets out front and he can backspin the ball with LD impact to the pull side. This is a good thing, in that there is little swing and miss in his game. Defensively at 3B, he ranges and makes the plays with longer strides after the crossover and gets low to the ground and plays out front with a flick of the wrist type arm stroke with accuracy. More likely to fill the SS role for the Vikings, yet I see him having enough bat to slide over to the right and play 3B at the next level.

11/21/21

A young 15 yr old athletic kid that has rhythmic movement patterns with which to build from and improve in all facets of the game. Defensively, he has educated feet and sift hands, while playing out front and through the baseball. The arm is loose and fluid with an online arm and shows the actions to stay in the dirt. The bat has some fluidity to it, and its online for the most part, and has hand speed and the bat speed should continue to get faster as he gets stronger and result in harder hit balls. What's impressive is the 90 mph EV for a incoming freshman and can see 10+ mph added over the next 3-4 years as he continues to fill out and get stronger. On the mound he has a tall, yet mild compact tucked high kick to delivery. The HTQ arm path is compact and medium in length, with some quickness through the slot. Does cut off and needs to finish out front more and reach through and out over his front side. The FB touches 80 now and can see upper 80's in time with some depth to a fair depth CB. Right now I'm intrigued by the bat and the actions as a position player. It will be interesting to see where he is come a year from now, as he heads into his sophomore year. There's plenty of time remaining with this kid and he has an engaging personality and respectful w/coachability.

An intriguing arm and bat, the Ridgeline product, had a strong 2024 as he was named one of our Utah Players of the Week this past spring. Kidman hit .365 with 6 HR’s as a junior and now that the pitching is coming into focus, it adds a layer of intrigue that a 90+ mph arm is in the making. With a 100 mph EV, coupled with a max distance of 379 which was 3rd at the event. But the arm on the mound is what took me by surprise. Kidman has a loose live arm that is raw and un-developed as he touched 89 to lead the event and gives indications of a 90-93 as when strength, weight and added strength take over. Kidman avg’ed 88 with the FB with a spin of 2,222 and a CH up, that sat at 77 with an absurd 1,011 kill of the spin rate. It will be interesting to see where the bat and arm take him over his senior year and where he starts to separate the arm or bat to make it to the next level, of which he should be on top JC coaches follow lists!

A skinny 6-2 170, now 6-2 180 and noticeably stronger and filled out, yet has remained lean and has tapped into some quick twitch at the plate. A lower floor right now, with considerable ceiling to reach over the next year and half. The hands fly through the zone with whip and solid extension into a wristy two hand finish top the swing. With this kind of week, he has now tied a top prospect in the state for HR lead at 6. With 12 regular season games left, the numbers are putting himself in a solid position to put up a stat line to rank with the best.

Scholzen and Jensen had the unique opportunity, to be on opposing sides of the ledger, when Scholzen's Angels and Jensen's Giants squared off in the 2002 MLB Fall Classic.

Scholzen also had the pleasure of coaching Jensen's roommate and back up catcher, Kyle Turner who has worked in professional/major league baseball for 24 years. Kyle currently is in his 14th season with the big league Kansas City Royals and serves as the clubs Head Athletic Trainer. Scholzen played in the Angels’ organization in 1991.
