The winter schedule has come to a close as players and players are starting to get into live-game action with the regular season just around the corner. The 2025 preseason showcase schedule got started in January with the Utah Preseason ID that featured roughly 60 prospects. We follow up the Preseason ID with our marquee event ahead of the HS season, the prestigeous Utah Preseason All-State that featured roughly 130 prospects with a large crop of the top talent in the State participating.

Our staff had eyes on over 190 players these past couple months and with the season finally here, there is still a ton of quality uncommitted talent still on the board in Utah's senior class. Over the next couple weeks, our staff will begin highlighting some of these names who need to be on the radar of college coaches looking to roundout their 2025 class.

We continue our Top Uncommitted Senior Spotlight Series with '25 RHP Van Haynie of Pleasant Grove HS. Haynie represented Utah at both the Senior Future Games (July) and the West Coast Games (October) where his FB sat in the 85-87 T88 range.

Scouting Report

2/22/25

Van Haynie, Pleasant Grove (UT), 2025
Positional Profile: RHP A former West Coast Game and Sr. Future Games alum. Should be the ace of the Vikings this spring. EZ 88-90 mph FB with a feel to pitch. Will serve a 2 year church mission, starting this summer
Body: 5-11, 155-pounds. Smallish lean athletic frame with twitch and needs to get after it in the weight room as there is considerably more in there
Delivery: Classic north/south direction to repeat and throw K's. High flexible kick with solid ext out front
Arm Action: RH. Clean quick HTQ arm stroke with some whip and mechanically the arm works properly.
FB: T88, 86-87 mph. FB play's at its velo, as it's a 4 seamer with true bsckspin and limited vertical and horizontal movement patterns T2217, 2146 average rpm.
CB: 72-75 mph. CB plays well with 2500+ spin and shows quality shape and depth to miss bats T2510, 2353 average rpm.
CH: 77-80 mph. Feel for the CH with the ability to kill the spin. CH fades with late turnover sink below the bat head T1631, 1506 average rpm.
ATH: 6.79 runner in the 60.

In my opinion the TOP arm that’s flying under the radar and he pitches for one of the iconic coaches in the Beehive State in Pleasant Grove and Future Games coach, Darrin Henry. Haynie has a classic north to south direct online delivery with a clean fluid arm stroke and the ball jumps out of the hand with consistent 87-90 mph velocity. The SL/SLV tunnels well off his FB and breaks sharp at the last minute with a fading pull the string 3rd offering with his CH up. A strike thrower that works off the edges of the plate and finds the pitching part of the K zone with ease. The FB is a low darted offering that stays below the impact zone for potential ground ball type life and effect. Take a look at the video and see the base delivery took from, for a quality pitching coach. Has aptitude and is quiet in nature and soaks in information with a low presence. Although not as physical as some other prospects, there is a quality JC/D2 out there, that would be taking a jump at an arm and delivery that could see big jumps as he needs to get more acquainted with the gym and the rest will take care of itself. Sleeper type that could surprise and surpass arms with bigger stuff and tools!
