On July 22nd and 23rd,  Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted the 2017 Top Prospect Games at English Field on the campus of Virginia Tech.  Some of the best 2017's in the Commonwealth showcased their skills for various colleges and the PBR staff. Here is the middle infield analysis from the event...

2017 TOp Prospect games: middle infield analysis

Luke Burton, MIF, RHP, The Covenant School, 2017
Hits from a balanced/athletic stance that is slightly bent at the knees. Smooth load back with a slight on bar. Short stride that is online. Maintained good balance throughout the swing with a fluid rhythm. Had a good approach doing around. Bat path was short and level. Line drive stroke with average bat speed. Had an exit velocity of 79 mph. In the field, had a long/loose arm action from a high three-quarter arm slot. Throws were accurate and had carry. Showed soft hands with fluid footwork. Exchanges were quick and clean. Showed good footwork and played through the ball. Has a very high baseball IQ and was able to make plays based on instincts. Had a positional velocity of 79 mph.

Dillon Cooperrider, 2B, Brentsville, 2017
Hits from a balanced/athletic stance that was slightly open. Had a smooth load back. Took a short stride to the ball that stayed online. Maintained good balance for the swing with a good lower half. Took an advanced approach during the round with a fluid rhythm. Has a short/level swing that was uphill on occasion. Had a line drive stroke with average bat speed. Had an exit velocity of 78 mph. In the field, threw between a high three-quarter and three-quarter arm slot with a short arm action. Throws were accurate and had average carry. Had soft hands with very quick and fluid feet. Exchanges were quick and clean and showed plus actions. Played through the ball and was athletic for the position. Is a natural second baseman.  A true gamer that has high energy.  A catalyst.  Had a positional velocity of 75 mph.

Jacob Haney, SS/RHP, The Covenant School, 2017
Hit from a balance/athletic stance with slight bend in the knees.  Stance was slightly closed. Had a smooth load back with a slight wrap. Stride was short and stayed closed. Utilized and inward turn of the knee to generate power and as a timing mechanism. Maintained balance in the swing with a good lower half.  Took an advanced approach in the round with decent rhythm. Had a short/level bat path with extension. Showed fast bat speed and strong hands. Had an exit velocity of 84 mph. Line drive stroke with gap-to-gap potential.  In the field, threw from a high three-quarter arms lot with a long/loose arm action. Throws were accurate and have some life. Showed soft hands in the field with good actions. Is a very projectable player with a projectable body. Should be able to stay on the left side of the field. Footwork was fluid and exchanges were clean. Could cut down on the amount of steps after fielding the ball. Had a positional velocity of 83 mph.

Ryan Miles, MIF/RHP, Woodgrove, 2017
Hit from a balanced/athletic stance. Had a smooth load back and hands dropped slightly. Had a short stride that stayed online. Maintained good balance throughout the swing with a fluid and rhythm and a strong lower half. Took a very good approach during the round. Had strong hands and fast bat speed. Was aggressive through the zone with the barrel. Had an exit velocity of 86 mph. Line drive stroke with gap-to-gap potential. In the field, threw from a high three-quarter arm slot with a short arm action. Throws were accurate and had some carry. Showed good hands that worked out front. Had average footwork with very clean exchanges. Footwork will get better once he plays through the ball. Had a positional velocity of 83 mph.

Tanner White, SS/RHP, James River, 2017
Hit from a balanced stance with slight bend in the knees. Load was back with a slight arm bar. Took a short stride with a slight like kick that stayed online. Maintained balance throughout the swing. Good lower half. Rhythm was stiff at times but took a good approach during the round. Had slightly above average bat speed with an exit velocity of 82 mph. Had a short/level bat path that was in and out of the zone at times. Line drive stroke that had pull-power potential. In the field, threw from a three-quarter arm slot with a short arm action. Throws were accurate and had some carry. Showed average hands and footwork. Exchanges were clean. Could play through the ball a bit more at times. Showed good arm strength with a positional velocity of 81 mph.
