We have our first update to the 2025 VA/DC Power 25. This update has a lot of variance in it, due to the fact that most private school teams have played more than five games, while most public school teams have not played more than two. The Virginia High School League pushed the season start and finish back one week, which has created some stark differences in where public and private teams are at in their season. Without further ado, we are going to highlight a few teams that have seen some movement in the Power 25.

VA/DC Power 25 Update Notes

+ We have a new #1 team. The St. John's College Cadets move up from the #2 spot and take over the top spot after they have jumped out to a 8-0 record. While this team has an elite pitching staff, it is the offense and the way that they have won that has stood out the most. Outside of a tight win over Calvert Hall, who is more than likely the best team they have played, the Cadets have absolutely hammered their opponents thus far. The reigning WCAC champs have outscored opponents 91-10 so far.

+ Yes, #2 Miller School has lost four games. Yes, they only drop one spot. Yes, they are a really good team. In addition to that, you could still argue that they are the best team in the state, but they have to win those big games to stay at the top spot. Why did they not drop further? The four losses all came to teams that would themselves be the #1 team in Virginia/DC. Four Florida powerhouses that, quite honestly, are more than likely better than every team in the state. In addition to that, MSA was one game into their season and travelled south to play teams that were a month or better into their season. As for their in-state games, the Mavericks have outpaced their opponents by a total of 35-7 (runs scored-runs allowed). They hold a quality win over Highland School, blanked Grace Christian (NC), blanked Walsingham, and beat Georgetown Prep (MD).

+ There has been some small shifting in the middle of the ranks, as well as four new teams moving into the Power 25. Long time VISAA power St. Christopher's School jumps into the rankings for the first time in quite a while. They are 4-1 with their only loss coming to Archbishop Spalding (MD), who just so happens to be the #1 team in Maryland. Also moving in to the rankings are Colonial Forge, Yorktown, and Atlantic Shores. Yorktown had a win over a current Power 25 team and while Atlantic Shores does have one bad loss, they also have a few quality wins.
