For the next two weeks we will roll out our Preseason Power 25. Three staff members voted on their version of the thirty best teams in the Preseason Power 25, with a possibility of 90 total vote points for each team. We will release three teams per day for the first week and then move to two teams per day once we reach the Top 10 next week. Voting for preseason teams centers more around the depth of talent on that team, as well as where it stacks up within their region/area, as opposed to strictly predicting schedule outcomes.

Generally, larger schools and classifications have a greater depth of player talent on roster. However, once the season begins and records begin to take shape, the Power 25 will be adjusted as needed. In addition to that, we will debut our Private School Top 10 around April 1st and Small School Top 10 around mid-April.

#8: Abingdon Falcons

You are going to be hard pressed to find a more impressive roster in Class 3. The Falcons are back with another star studded cast after another 20 win season. Abingdon returns five seniors that are big contributors. Braylen DeBusk, Beckett Dotson (VMI), Daniel Fellhauer, Elijah Parks, and Jett Humphreys (William & Mary) have won a whole lot of baseball games in the navy and white, but are searching for pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Humphreys does it all. He is a run producer in the middle, has thrown countless big innings, and has come up huge in plenty of big games. On the mound he should get the help of Dotson and Landon Turman (East Carolina) just to name a few. Last year Turman got things going for the offense and was a steadying presence on the mound. In addition to all of the upperclass talent, including a sneaky name to watch in junior infielder Aiden Smith, the Falcons bolster two extremely talented sophomores in Hayden Reed (Virginia Tech) and Judge Dillow. Reed’s left handed bat and left handed arm will be a force on both the mound and at the plate. The Abingdon program has been on the doorstep pretty frequently in the past few years, winning 20+ games the past three seasons. Can they finish the job in 2025?

Final Thoughts:
"The Falcons, as put by another SWVA high school coach, are the standard in that part of the state. The operation, tradition, and setup are top tier and they have the talent to match. Roster wise, they are as good or better than any Abingdon team I can recall. They have depth on the mound and in the box, they have experience, they have some youthful exuberance, and they are well coached. If there is a year, this is the one."
