VHSL Class 6 Previews: Region C
Alexandria City Titans
2024 Record: 14-8
The Titans are coming off of a 14-8 year and get some big names back in 2025. They have potentially three arms that can guide them to a playoff run. Liam Jones (Bucknell) was uncommitted at this time last year and went on to post double digit strikeouts per seven innings pitched during the spring. Noah Sternberg (Vassar) was 2nd Team All-District last season. Jones and Sternberg should hopefully be joined by a healthy Jason Kruczek (East Carolina) who is coming off of a year on the shelf. Cooper Ovalle, Connor Pollock, and Matthew Ralis are all positional players who will play significant roles this season. Two sophomores that should be names to follow are Tommy Kocot and Cameron Trail. Kocot is an athletic, versatile positional player and Trail has a chance to be a big addition on the mound, either this year or the near future.
Edison Eagles
2024 Record: 14-8
Edison made a nice run into the regional tournament, but their season came to an end at the hands of West Springfield. While the Eagles had a fairly successful season in 2024, they will have to replace five offensive starters from last year. Fortunately for them they have two returning All-District selections in Nathan Roeschlein and Matthias Alden who should be big contributors once again. Joining those two is 1st Team All-District and 2nd Team All-Region right hander, John Dobson. Those three juniors will make up a pretty strong core for this group. They will be joined by senior outfielder Benjamin Sandoe, junior catcher Miguel Zayas, and junior Derek Potts. Two underclassmen that could be pivotal pieces at some point this year are sophomores Demir Doven and Zyler Munoz. Both can be impact bats and potential starters at some point this season.
Hayfield Hawks
2024 Record: 16-6
The Hawks had a strong season in 2024 reeling off a eight game win streak in the middle of the year before entering playoff play when they fell to West Potomac in the region quarterfinals. They return a bulk of their lineup in Jacob Bueno, Connor Chan (Shenandoah), Justice Lambert, Nolan Phillips, Jack Ross, Quinn Snyder, and Zachary Suga. Nolan Taylor and Snyder threw big innings last spring and look to do the same in 2025 but they will need some depth behind them as they look to make a deeper run in the playoffs.
Lake Braddock Bruins
2024 Record: 19-7
The Bruins had a strong season punching their ticket into the state tournament but losing in the first round to McLean. They will be missing the contributions from Jake Drumm and Jamie Laskofski on both sides of the ball. There will be frontline arm questions as well as replacing lineup production. Beau Padgett is someone that could step into those roles. Evan George and Matthew Mayer both return some experience from 2024. The holes that they have to fill are significant and that will be the difference maker this spring.
Robinson Rams
2024 Record: 13-12
There were bumps in the road in 2024 for the Rams as they fell in the region quarterfinals to Woodson. They lose a ton of production and will need to replace it to make a run in 2025. Connor Doherty (Delaware) is one of the main producers that returns for his senior season. Brock Riley and Boston Parker are two that could possibly step into bigger roles on the mound, as well as offensively. They will take a huge hit losing staff ace Aidan Van Baars. Finding a frontline arm and some depth in the lineup will be key for their success this spring.
South County Stallions
2024 Record: 8-12
While the Stallions do return more than their share of offense from last year, it is on the mound where the concern may lie this season. They lost Reid Osborne, who threw some of the biggest innings last season. They also lost some relievers and depth pieces that they will have to replace. Wyatt Osborne and Caden Behan have some experience under their belt and are both capable of putting SoCo in a good spot night in and night out. Tyler Orth, Wyatt Osborne, and Caden Behan look to once again pace the front of the offense. They should be joined by Michael DeVore, Blake Seay, Luca Iaci, and Trevion Campbell who all played their part in the offense last season.
West Potomac Wolverines
2024 Record: 14-12
The West Potomac Wolverines made their first trip to the state tournament since 2016. They return around half of their lineup and a handful of their arms, including their Virginia Tech commit, Austin Dean. In addition to Dean, they return another arm in Liam Cardman (Catholic). One underclassman to watch on the mound is sophomore Jackson Riedel. Riedel is a talented right hander who saw some time last year as a freshman and that role has a chance to be much larger this spring. While Dean and Cardman could also contribute with the bat, their lineup will be aided greatly by upperclassmen Jeremy Focht, Barrett Baker, Zak Turenne, and Banks Holman. If Dean can be a shutdown arm, that will be a tremendous asset to the pitching depth and need for run production with West Po.
West Springfield Spartans
2024 Record: 14-10
The Spartans were close to clinching a spot in the state tournament, but fell short in a comeback effort in the region semifinals to Lake Braddock. They bring back some important pieces that look to make a run. Aaron Dierks (South Carolina), Ethan Seckler, Milo Thompson (Shepherd), and Kaleb Williams (Liberty) are some upperclassmen that return with some experience. Dierks and Thompson give them a solid duo on the mound but they will need some depth behind them. They lost some run production in Jaden Buechler and Henry Stewart so they will need to find some more to help Williams at the top of the order. Run production and quality starts will be important if they want to punch their ticket in the state tournament.
