Midlothian Trojans:

Hank Blanton RHP / 1B / Midlothian, VA / 2023

Blanton has a XL, 6-4 frame. Normal to low effort delivery, front foot swings open to stride, and lands on line. The arm swing is long and loose from a lower three-quarter arm slot. He had two outings, both with similar fastball velocity, but the velo did tick up just a touch in the second outing. Combined he sat 83-86 mph and touched 87 in his second appearance. The breaking ball stayed in the 72-74 mph range, and flashed a 74 mph changeup that he used effectively to left handed and right handed hitters. The breaking ball had bigger 12/6 shape with gradual break and had solid feel for the zone. Blanton showed some poise in his Tuesday night appearance, loading the bases with nobody out and in a three run game and went on to punch out the next three hitters.

Chase Chambers SS / 2B / Midlothian, VA / 2024

Chambers has a long narrow frame that is all legs. Wider stance at the plate with a minimal load and stride. It is a simple swing and approach that is contact driven and shows the ability to use the whole field. Patient at the plate and versatile bat that fits well in the two spot. Chambers is an above average defender, showing soft hands and a quick clean exchange. Arm strength is average, but he gets it out of the glove and hand quick with accuracy across the infield.

Cole Feldman SS / 3B / Midlothian , VA / 2023

Love this bat. It is always refreshing to see players who produce at the plate and this is one of the more consistent bats in the Richmond area. One of the first good looks of Feldman was last spring in the our spring league and he continues to do what he does best, HIT. Simple approach, above average bat speed, uses the whole field, and a very accurate barrel. You just don't see a lot of mishit balls from Feldman. Doubles power to the backside gap and a little more to the pullside. Long lanky frame with room to add strength and projects corner-corner.

Andrew Jones RHP / 3B / Midlothian, VA / 2022

Jones, the now VMI commit, was a standout at the 2021 Unsigned Senior Games and has long been a very intriguing arm, especially on the analytical side. Jones works with a higher level of intent and effort, is direct to the plate, and lands slightly closed. It is a full whippy arm that builds up speed through release. While the 85-88 mph fastball was scattered around the zone at times, Jones displayed a nice feel for a 11/5 breaking ball that had hard bottom to it and higher end spin that ranged from 2685-2860 RPM. The breaking ball plays and as he continues to gain a more consistent feel for the fastball in the zone, Jones has a chance to be a shutdown arm come playoff time.

Spencer Lloyd RHP / 1B / Midlothian, VA / 2023

6-foot-1, 190-pound frame that has leaned out a bit. Shorter arm action from a three-quarter slot. One of the most intriguing parts of of Lloyd's performance was the amount of swingback and arm side run he got on the fastball. Some of the pitches in the video below display it, but he was able to do this pretty consistently. The 81-83 mph fastball worked well to the glove side because of the run back over the outside edge. Got swings and misses on a 69-71 mph breaking ball that had bigger, gradual soft shape and slurvy feel to it. Came on in relief in the third inning and got two big punchouts, followed by a strikeout to start the fourth.

Evan Miller SS / RHP / Midlothian , VA / 2025

Listed at 5-foot-8, Miller has a lanky frame with room to grow and the body still projects. Defense first profile with solid hands, glove presents well, and a quick clean exchange. Can throw on the run and turns the pivot well with a quick transfer and release (primary second base for Midlo). Wider square stance, simple load and stride, and level path to contact. Showed ability to use the whole field and is a contact driven swing. Solid feel for the barrel and takes what is given. The offense will continue to trend up as he adds strength to the frame.

Brady Paul OF / LHP / Midlothian, VA / 2025

Interesting first look at Paul. Compact, athletic frame standing around 5-foot-7 with square shoulders. Got a start on the mound where he showed some intrigue for a young left hander, sitting 78-80 mph with the fastball and a sharp 12/6 breaking ball that sat 69-70 mph. The control was a bit scattered, but there's definitely something there on the mound for the freshman. At the plate is where made consistent impacts. His first two at bats were back to back doubles. Simple quiet approach, barrel stays in the zone a long time, and showed adjustability in the swing. It it refreshing to see a hitter, especially young hitter, make a noticeable adjustment with two strikes and he did just that. All field approach and takes what is given. Going to be an interesting follow for the Trojans.
