Fall Top Prospect Games: Middle Infield Analysis

On Saturday, October 31, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted its 2nd Annual Fall Prospect Games at James Madison University. Over 60 players participated in the one day event that featured a pro workout in the morning and games in the afternoon and evening. Over the next few days, we will break down in great detail the many talented position players that were on the field for the event.  Here is a look at the Middle Infielders that attended.

+Nolan Caler, 2B, Hanover, 2017
Hit from a tall, balanced stance that stood open.  Smooth load back with a controlled stride that gets on line.  Decent lower half drive.  Maintains good balance throughout swing.  Bat exit velocity of 79 mph.  Short, level approach to the ball.  At times does not get full extension.  Fluid rhythm.  Gets the barrel to the ball with consistency.  Line drive hitter.  Threw from a quick, high ¾ arm slot with accuracy.  Positional velocity of 72 mph.  Average hands with quick, clean exchanges.  Clean footwork that played through the ball.

+Michael Fyvie, 2B, Patriot, 2018
Hit from an athletic, balanced stance that stood slightly open.  Good rhythm in hands.  Smooth load back with short and controlled stride that gets back on line.  Decent lower half turn that could stay down in legs more.  Maintains good balance throughout swing.  Bat exit velocity of 83 mph.  Quick hands that stay level through the zone.  Swing path at times works around the ball.  Line drive hitter with gap to gap power.  Threw from a loose high ¾ arm slot with some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 75 mph.  Decent hands with clean footwork that is rigid at times.  Showed athleticism and ability to show smooth range.

+Austin Gauthier, SS, South County, 2017
Hit from a balanced, athletic stance.  Quiet hands with a smooth load back.  Slight leg kick stride that stays on line and balanced.  Good lower half turn with quick hands.  Short and level swing path with good extension.  Fluid rhythm.  Took a good approach to the round, hitting balls to all parts of the field.  Line drive hitter.  Threw from a  quick, high ¾ arm slot with accuracy.  Positional velocity of 75 mph.  Good glove presentation with soft hands.  Clean, quick footwork and exchanges.  Showed athleticism playing through the ball.  Showed positive actions to be a next level player.

+Jared Johnson, SS, Patriot, 2018
Hit from a slightly narrow stance that stood tall.  Smooth load back with a controlled stride that stays on line.  Decent lower half turn to the ball.  Maintains good balance throughout swing.  Bat exit velocity of 78 mph.  Short, level path to the ball with decent extension.  Line drive hitter with quality mechanics.  Good feel for hands, should be an elite hitter with increased strength.  Threw from a quick, high ¾ arm slot with accuracy.  Positional velocity of 72 mph.  Quality hands with clean footwork.  At times rigid.  Quick, clean exchanges.  Plays through the ball.  Athletic infielder with smooth range.

+Matthew Kane, SS, Osbourn Park, 2018
Hit from an athletic, balanced stance that was slightly open.  Smooth load back with quiet hands.  Controlled stride that got back on line.  Decent lower half turn that pushed forward at times.  Maintains balance throughout swing.  Bat exit velocity of 77 mph.  Short, level swing path that stayed through the ball at times.  Line drive hitter.  Threw from a quick, high ¾ arm slot with some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 73 mph.  Average hands with clean footwork.  Quick, clean exchanges.  Played through the ball.

+Yareb Martinez, SS, John Champe, 2017
Hit from an athletic, balanced stance with a smooth load back.  Slight leg kick stride that is controlled and stays on line.  Aggressive lower half turn to the ball.  Maintains balance throughout swing.  Bat exit velocity of 80 mph.  Quick hands, with short and level swing path.  Good extension through the ball.  Line drive hitter with potential gap power.  Decent rhythm.  Threw from a loose, high ¾ arm slot with accuracy.  Positional velocity of 81 mph.  Average hands with clean footwork that at times is rigid.  Clean exchanges.  Played through the ball.

+Brad Painter, SS, Powhatan, 2018
Hit from a slightly crouched, open stance.  Smooth load back with slight arm bar.  Controlled stride that gets on line.  Drifts to center.  Decent lower half turn to the ball.  Maintains good balance throughout swing.  Bat exit velocity of 82 mph.  Level swing path that at times works around the ball.  Line drive hitter with rhythm.  Threw from a quick, loose high ¾ arm slot with accuracy.  Positional velocity of 71 mph.  Average hands with footwork that played through the ball.  At times exchanges were not clean.

+Josh Pittman, 2B, Highland, 2017
Hit from an athletic, balanced stance that stood open.  Load back with a slight leg kick stride that is controlled and gets back on line.  Robotic rhythm with arm bar.  Aggressive lower half turn.    Level swing path with extension at times.  Bat exit velocity of 82 mph.  Line drive hitter with gap power.  Threw from a quick, high ¾ arm slot with some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 72 mph.  Good glove presentation with soft hands.  Clean footwork with quick and clean exchanges.  Played through the ball with athleticism.

+Gregory Ryan, SS, Benedictine College Prep, 2018 (Pittsburgh)
Hit from a crouched stance that stood open.  Smooth load back with a stride that gets on line.  At times rushes to front side.  Average lower half turn that stays balanced.  Bat exit velocity of 80 mph.  Quick hands with a level approach to the ball.  Good extension.  Line drive hitter with gap power.  Threw from a loose, high ¾ arm slot with some accuracy.  Soft hands with athletic footwork that played through the ball.  Quick, clean exchanges.  Athletic player with smooth range.

+Tevin Tucker, SS, Prince George, 2018
Hit from a tall stance that stood slightly open.  Tall hands with a smooth load back.  Controlled stride that gets back on line.  Good lower half turn the ball.  Maintains balance throughout swing.  Bat exit velocity of 79 mph.  Short, level swing path with good extension.  Line drive hitter with potential pull power.  Fluid rhythm.  Quality mechanics that should develop to an above average hitter.  Threw from a quick, high ¾ arm slot with some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 73 mph.  Decent hands with clean exchanges.  Showed some athleticism with his footwork.  Played through the ball.

+Ethan Wanat, SS, Woodbridge, 2017
Hit from a tall, slightly open stance.  Smooth load back with arm bar.  Toe tap stride that gets on line and is controlled.  Lower half comes up out of legs.  Average balance throughout swing.  Bat exit velocity of 81 mph.  Slightly long path to the ball that stays level.  Barrel stays on line through the ball at times.  Line drive hitter.  Threw from a loose, high ¾ arm slot with accuracy.  Positional velocity of 73 mph.  Good glove presentation with decent hands.  At times fields from a very narrow squatted position.  Quick, clean exchanges.  Plays through the ball.
