Freshman Free Showcase: Infielder Analysis

In late January, PBR VA/DC hosted its Freshman Free Showcase at Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen. Over thirty players from the classes of 2021 and 2022 showcased at the event, with the weather cooperating for us to run the 60 yard dash outside. There were a handful of players who stood out and are potential future members of Team Mid-Atlantic for the PBR Future Games.

Today we wrap up our analysis of the event by looking at the infielders who participated in the event.

Jackson Baird SS/RHP Battlefield 2021
Baird is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame, hits from the right side from a balanced stance. Strides on line, smooth load back, rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate completely, maintains some balance during his swing. Gets barrel to ball quickly, slightly uphill path with extension through the ball. Showed good approach working middle of the field, line drive swing with potential for gap power, exit velocity was 76. At short, works around the ball a bit, fields with a good wide base and above average hands. Clean transfer, throws from lower three-quarters slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 72.

Noah Burtner 3B/RHP Spotswood 2022
Burtner is 5-7 and has an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, smooth load down and back, hips rotate completely, some balance to his swing. Level line drive swing, showed good approach, working gap to gap, exit velocity was 70. At third, gets behind the ball and fields with a wider base and average hands. Works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, short arm action. Infield velocity was 63.

Clark Driscoll SS Clover Hill 2021
Driscoll is 5-4 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an open upright stance. Short leg kick stride on line, short smooth load back with slight wrap, hips rotate fully, some balance to swing. Level line drive swing with some extension through the ball and some strength. Showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 77. In the infield, good clean feet, rounds ball well and fields with a wider base and above average hands. Plays through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action, infield velocity was 70.

Kelly Hackley Jr SS Eastern View 2021
Hackley is 5-9 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an athletic stance. Short stride on line, minimal load back with a slight wrap, some rhythm to swing. Hips rotate completely, some balance as he stands up through contact. Slightly uphill swing path, strong, line drive swing with extension through the ball. Showed good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 78. At short, got body behind ball and fielded with a firm base. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 73.

William Harris SS Eastern View 2021
Harris is 5-9 with a lanky frame and hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance. Strides on line, smooth load back with a wrap, some rhythm to his swing. Short to ball, level line drive swing. Showed good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 74. At short, quick feet, gets body behind the ball, fields with a wider base. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm, infield velocity was 68. Ran a 7.28 60 yard dash.

Nick Mastrogianakis 2B Poquoson 2021
Mastrogianakis is 5-5 with a lankier athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, smooth load down and back, some rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to swing. Short to ball, level line drive swing, showed good approach using the middle of the field, exit velocity was 74. In the infield, gets body behind ball and fields with a wider base and average hands. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action, infield velocity was 65. Ran a 7.61 60 yard dash.

James McGrady SS Greenbrier Christian 2021
McGrady is 5-10 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short stride on line, minimal load, has some rhythm to swing. Explosive hips and some balance to swing. Quick to ball, short path, level line drive swing with some extension through the finish, some whip to his bat. Showed good approach working middle of field, exit velocity was 78. At short, quick feet, rounds ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands. Pushes through to a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action with a quick arm, infield velocity was 81.

Javier Rodriguez 2B Freedom (South Riding) 2022
Rodriguez is 5-3 with an athletic frame and hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Heel lift stride, toe stays in contact, smooth load back to an arm bar. Hips rotate completely, maintains some balance to his swing. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing with a pull preference, exit velocity was 64. Showed ability to go with pitches. In the infield, gets body behind the ball and fields with a wider base and average hands. Gains ground and sets angle during transfer, throws from high three-quarter arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 59.

Benjamin Santiago SS/RHP Douglas Freeman 2022
Santiago is 5-9 with an athletic frame. He hits from an upright open stance, big leg kick stride on line with short load back, has rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half with some balance to swing. Short to ball, slightly uphill path and line drive swing sets up to pull side, good extension through the ball. Fast bat with power potential, showed ability to use whole field, exit velocity 85. At short, quick clean feet, rounds ball and fields it with a wide base and soft hands. Plays through to a quick clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 68. Ran a 7.46 60 yard dash.
