The Godwin Eagles cruised past Hermitage 8-1 on Tuesday night as they moved to 3-0 early on in the season and look to continue to build off some solid wins to start the season.

Godwin got things started early as they rallied for four runs in the bottom half of the second inning. 2019 Liam Deegan (Virginia), got things started in the second with a line shot double to right field, Bryce Safferwich followed with a single, 2019 Noah Cornwell (James Madison) reached way of error, Cory O'Shea singled to bring home and RBI, and with some help from Hermitage defensive miscues Godwin went ahead 4-0.

Hermitage managed to plate a run in the fourth inning when Max Moore singled through the middle to bring home a run.

O'Shea blasted a fastball deep to left field to get things started for the Eagles in the fifth. Later in the inning, Scott McDonough (Florence-Darlington Tech) doubled down the left field line to score Mark Buisson making it 6-1.

O'Shea and Judd Garner collected additional RBIs in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the Godwin lead to 8-1.

Godwin's pitching was a huge success lead by junior Spencer Rife who earned the win. Rife allowed three hits and one run while striking out five batters and not allowing any walks. Sam Landess (James Madison) and Alex Leverty pitched shutout relief of Rife in the final two frames.

Godwin stacked up 12 hits in the night game. O'Shea lead the way going 3-for-3, including the fifth inning homer. Brock Berringer also collected two hits in the game.
