Hillcats Prime Scout Day Analysis: Part 1

On Monday, September 25, Hillcats Prime hosted a Scout Day in Northern Virginia and invited the PBR VA/DC staff to attend to collect data for profiles and to take video of each of the players that participated. Here is the first half of our analysis of the event:

Tyler Brocato OF/RHP WT Woodson 2020
Brocato is 5-8 with a lanky frame. Hits from the right side from a closed balanced stance. Leg kick stride closed, short load back, slight wrap, some rhythm. Hips rotate fully, some balance to swing. Short path to ball, level line drive swing, showed good approach working the middle of the field, exit velocity was 78. In the outfield, gets behind ball well and plays through it with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with a long, free arm action, outfield velocity was 74, showed some accuracy with his throws. Has quickness and speed, ran a 6.94 60 yard dash. On the mound, drop and drive delivery, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action that is free, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders closed and level, lands closed with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 70-72 with late sink to it. Slider was 65 with good armspeed and 11/5 break. Change-up was 67-68 with good armspeed and hard sinking action to it.

Robert Cahoon C WT Woodson 2019
Cahoon is 5-11 with an athletic frame. Hits from the right side from an open upright balanced stance. Short stride on line, short load back. Explosive lower half and good balance throughout swing. Swing works uphill through the ball, has a pull approach, exit velocity was 79. Behind the plate, good deep stance to start, sways well when receiving ball, soft firm hands, presents a good strike. On throws, gains ground during clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, showed some accuracy on his throws. Pop times were 2.14-2.34 and position velocity was 70. Ran a 7.31 60 yard dash.

Carl Erdmann 3B James Madison 2019
Erdmann is 6-2 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from a slightly closed balanced stance. Strides on line, smooth load back, shows some rhythm to swing. Some hip rotation and some balance to his swing. Level line drive swing that can get slightly uphill at times, has some quickness and barrel awareness, slight pull preference, exit velocity was 86. At third, gets behind the ball and fields with average hands. Works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a free arm action, position velocity was 71.

David Giorgis C West Springfield 2019
Giorgis is 6-1 with an athletic frame and stronger lower half. He hits from the right side from an upright balanced stance. Strides on line, loads back. Explosive lower half with some balance to his swing. Short and quick to the ball, works slightly uphill through it, good extension. Line drive hitter with some power potential, exit velocity was 85. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm action. Pop times were 2.00-2.13 and position velocity was 75. Throws had some carry and accuracy. Works under ball well when receiving, shows ability to move frame well into lateral blocks.

Jonathan Goodrich LHP TC Williams 2019
Goodrich is 6-1 with a lanky frame, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands on line with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 70-72, touching 73, with some late run to it. Curveball was 60-61 with 1/7 break and some armspeed. Change-up was 66-68 with good armspeed and fading action to it.

Todd Hartman LHP/OF Thomas Jefferson S&T 2019
Hartman is 6-0 with a lankier athletic frame, hits from the left side from an athletic stance. Leg kick stride, smooth load back, some rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half with some balance. Quick to ball, works uphill with a line drive swing, shows some gap power and barrel awareness, exit velocity was 81. In the outfield, good footwork, gets behind ball and plays through it well, fields with soft hands. Quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a shorter, loose, quick arm action, outfield velocity was 83. Ran a 7.45 60 yard dash. On the mound, throws with a drop and drive delivery from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action that is quick with some effort to his delivery. Shoulders level and slightly closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 77-80, touching 81, with some downward plane and late run to it. Curveball had sharp 1/7 break and good armspeed at 70. Slider had late 2/8 break and good armspeed at 72. Change-up was 72 with fade and good armspeed. Showed good feel and command of all four pitches.

Zach Hershey SS Thomas Jefferson S&T 2019
Hershey has an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back, some rhythm to his swing. Hips have some explosion and he has some balance to swing. Level line drive swing, showed good approach working the middle of the field, exit velocity was 74. At short, fields with a wide base and above average hands, quick feet. Clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a free arm action, infield velocity was 76. Ran a 7.20 60 yard dash.

Braden Huebsch SS/RHP South Lakes 2019
Huebsch is 5-11 with a lanky frame, he hits from a slightly closed balanced stance. Long stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate and maintains some balance to swing. Level line drive swing, showed good approach working the middle of the field, exit velocity was 76. At short, clean feet, rounds ball to get behind it, fields with wide base and average hands. Throws from low three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action, position velocity was 69. Ran a 7.28 60 yard dash. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action that is loose and whippy, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders slightly closed and uphill, lands square with a fall off finish. Fastball was 76-77. Curveball had good armspeed and was 62 with 11/5 break, pitch has potential as it tightens. Change-up was 73 with good armspeed and late run to it.
