Kreyer commits to Lafayette

Stone Bridge lefty and 2014 Top Prospect games participant Brett Kreyer has committed to attend Lafayette College in the fall of 2016. Kreyer was the Bulldogs ace and was dominant down the stretch as Stone Bridge won the Virginia 5A State Championship. The lefty finished the season throwing five straight complete games, during which he allowed zero earned runs. The Bulldogs look to be strong again next spring as they return Kreyer and a strong core of John Callahan (MIF, 2016, George Mason), David Mocabee (3B/RHP, 2016), and Elijah Quiceno (C, 2016).

Kreyer has an athletic frame with a strong lower half. He has a quick tall and fall deliveryand throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. He is short on the backside before a quick armstroke that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and online as he strides out to a square landing before coming to an athletic finish with a slight recoil. In June, at the Top Prospect North Showcase, Kreyer’s fastball had slight cutting action with good downward plane and ran 80-82. His slider had late, tight 10/4 break and was thrown with good armspeed at 73-74. He threw an overhand curveball with 12/6 break that is sharp when down in the zone that ran 61-62. His changeup was thrown with full armspeed and had armside run, sitting 71-74. Kreyer’s command of all four pitches was outstanding to both sides of the plate.

When Kreyer arrives at Lafayette, he has the stuff and command to compete for a mid-week rotation spot immediately and can help as a lefty out of the bullpen who can face both left-handed and right-handed hitters. As he develops, his four pitch repertoire, command, and the deception that he offers in his delivery give him the tools to become a weekend starter for the Leopards. Kreyer understands how to keep hitters off balance and uses all of his pitches effectively in any count, which makes his fastball play up.

Good luck Brett!!
