Logan Barker Chooses Marshall

Colonial Forge two-way player and 2014 Fall Prospect Games participant Logan Barker has committed to attend Marshall University in the fall of 2017. Barker is the second current Eagle to commit to play baseball in college, joining Gabe Schilke (C, 2016, Navy). Colonial Forge will look to build off of a solid 2015 season that saw them advance to the 6A South Regional tournament before falling in a tight game to Cosby in the quarterfinals.

Barker is 6-foot-0 tall and has an athletic frame. He is also a middle infielder and brings that athleticism with him to the mound. Barker throws from a high three-quarters slot and has a long, quick arm action that generates easy velocity. He has smooth mechanics and stays on line to his target. At the Class of 2017 Prospect Games in July, Barker’s fastball sat at 80 and touched 82 with slight run that he commanded well. He also threw a 12/6 curveball that he commanded well with late break.

At the plate, Barker has a quiet rhythm with a smooth load back, and balance throughout the swing. He has a line drive stroke that has the ability to lengthen out and become a gap-to-gap doubles type hitter. In the field, Barker is a solid defender and has a very solid glove with good actions, above average footwork, and takes good angles to the baseball. He has soft hands and an average arm strength.

When he arrives at Marshall, Barker will primarily focus on developing as a pitcher and his solid two pitch combination would make him someone who could immediately help the Herd out of the bullpen. As he develops and gets stronger, Barker has the potential to either develop into a dominant late reliever or a weekend starter if he can add a third pitch. Barker also could help Marshall as an infield option and has the ability to develop into a solid defender that can play either second or third and provide a bat that will hit for average with gap power mixed in.

Congrats Logan!
