On Saturday, February 22, over 60 players from all areas of Virginia and DC made their way to Coastal Sports Center in Norfolk, VA to take part in Session III of the 2020 Preseason All-State. It was an outstanding event with a ton of talent on display, here are some quick notes on a few pitchers who really caught our staff's eye with their performance on Saturday. This was a loaded event, check the PBR VA/DC Podcast for our staff discussion of the event, as well as full analysis of all of all players in the coming weeks.

Collin Carroll RHP / 1B / Tidewater Academy, VA / 2023

6-foot-2, 190-pound projectable frame. Short quick arm with easy effort. Up to 83 mph and ball came out the hand well.

Scott Crosson LHP / OF / Hickory, VA / 2020

The Christopher Newport commit was up to 84 mph with the fastball. Loose arm, showed some arm side run on the fastball, and displayed ability to locate to both sides of the plate. Solid feel for both off speed pitches.

Luke Hanson SS / RHP / Lafayette, VA / 2022

Big time two way potential to Hanson. Fastball sat 84-85 and touched 86 on occasion. Feel for 11/5 breaking ball and ability to get it over whenever he wanted to.

Kyle Hardy LHP / OF / Western Branch, VA / 2021

Handled himself really well on the mound. Short deceptive arm action. Fastball was downhill at times and got up to 82 mph. Above average feel for two secondary pitches.

Austin Irby 3B / RHP / Cox , VA / 2024

Young arm that flashes a lot of potential. Throws with intent, fastball sat 76-78 mph, and had above average feel for a changeup.

Michael Irby 3B / RHP / Cox, VA / 2023

A lot to like about the 6-foot-4, 195-pound freshman. Strong durable frame, fastball sat 77-80 mph and touched 81 on occasion, and possessed an advanced breaking ball that he located consistently.

Tyler Mitchell OF / RHP / CD Hylton, VA / 2021

Athletic frame, still has some room to grow, and flashed a changeup that shows makings of a plus pitch. Late diving action with arm speed and intent.

Andrew Ramos RHP / OF / Lafayette, VA / 2020

Pitches with some effort and intent. Fastball had carry through the zone sitting 83-85 and touched 86 mph. Above average feel for a breaking ball and changeup. Both off speed pitches were thrown with fastball arm speed.

Hayden Wasson LHP / OF / Powhatan, VA / 2022

One of only two left handed arms on the day. Loose clean arm action. Ball played well out of the hand. Fastball sat 78-80 mph and had carry through the zone appearing to have more velocity in the tank.
