Preseason All-State II: Rapid Reaction Pitchers

On Sunday, February 16, over 100 players from all corners of Virginia and DC descended on Ironbridge Academy in Chester, VA to take part in Session II of the 2020 Preseason All-State. It was an outstanding event with a ton of talent on display, here are some quick notes on a few pitchers who really caught our staff's eye with their performance on Sunday. Luke Calveric RHP / 3B / Mills Godwin, VA / 2022

Calveric is tall and very lanky with a lot of projection left to his frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a losse, quick, easy arm action. Fastball was 83-84, touching 85. Breaking ball had armspeed and sharp 11/5 break at 68-70. Change-up also had good armspeed at 77-80.

 

 

 

 

Luke Craytor OF / RHP / Western Albemarle, VA / 2022

Craytor has a tall lanky frame with a lot of projection left to it. Three-quarters arm slot with easy effort, fastball was 83-84. Showed three offspeed pitches, curve at 63-64, slider at 68-72, and change at 70-71. Has a chance to refine into a very good mix. 

 

 

 

 

Konner Eaton LHP / OF / Prince George, VA / 2021

Eaton has a lankier athletic frame with plenty of projection left to it. Throws from a low three-quarters arm with very easy effort and a loose quick arm. Fastball was 83-85, touching 86 with heavy late run. Showed a change-up with similar life at 74-76 and a slider that has a chance to be swing and miss at 75-76.

 

 

 

Anthony Gabello RHP / 1B / Hanover, VA / 2022

Big physical righty sat 89-90 and showed a sharp breaking ball that was 69-72. Still has some projection left as he continues to grow and strengthen his frame. 

 

 

 

Jackson Gimbel RHP / OF / Highland School, VA / 2021

Athletic frame with projection and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. Normal effort with quick arm. Showed feel for all three pitches, fastball was 83-85. Showed good armspeed on breaking ball and change-up, breaker was 74-77 and change was 75-76.

 

 

 

Kevin Gunn SS / 2B / Dinwiddie, VA / 2021

Gunn is a Longwood commit and has only been doubling as a pitcher for less than a year. He throws from a higher arm slot with an easy loose action, ball jumps out of his hand. Fastball was 85-88. Showed a slider that had good armspeed and and shape at 74-76 that has a chance to tighten into a swing and miss pitch. Still a lot of upside and projection to frame and as he learns on the mound.

 

 

 

Levi Huesman LHP / Hanover, VA / 2022

Huesman has an athletic frame that still has plenty of projection left to it. Good rhythm to his delivery, throws from a low three-quarters with a loose arm action, fastball was 84-86 with late life. Showed a change-up at 73-76 and a slider at 68-74 as well.

 

 

 

Jack Kaczmarek RHP / OF / Patrick Henry, VA / 2022

Kaczmarek has a big athletic frame that still has projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a quick arm and intent. Fastball was 82-84 with some late life. Breaking ball had some shape and armspeed at 70-72, chance to be good as it sharpens. Also showed a change at 70-72.

 

 

 

Garret Kangas RHP / Carlisle, VA / 2021

Kangas is a Campbell commit and has an athletic frame with some strength already present. He throws from multiple slots with a loose quick arm action. Fastball was 81-83, touching 84 with heavy movement to it. Also showed a breaking ball at 68-69 and a change-up at 70-71.

 

 

 

Charlie Krebs 1B / RHP / Bishop O'Connell , VA / 2023

Krebs has an athletic frame with projection, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short quick arm. Fastball has downward plane and was 82-84. Breaking ball had good armspeed and late sharp break at 72-73.

 

 

 

 

 

AJ Labrusciano SS / RHP / North Stafford, VA / 2022

Labrusciano has a tall lanky frame with a lot of projection left to it. On the mound, loose easy arm action from a three-quarters arm slot with late life to his fastball, which was 78-79, touching 80. Showed feel for a breaking ball that was 69-70 with good armspeed and sharp break. Change-up was 70-72.

 

 

 

 

Carter Schuma RHP / C / Trinity Episcopal School, VA / 2023

Schuma has a lanky frame with a lot of projection left to it. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a quick loose arm. Fastball was 81-83 and curveball had late sharp 10/4 break, good armspeed on pitch and it tunneled well off his fastball at 68-71. Change-up was 74-75.
