RVA Fall Review Reactions Part II

Jason Burton
Richmond Area Scouting Coordinator

On October 20th at Ironbridge Baseball Academy, PBR VA/DC held its 1st annual RVA Fall Review. There were 32 participants on hand for the event and over the next few days we are going to be highlighting a few that stood out.

Jack Kaczmarek RHP / OF / Patrick Henry, VA / 2022

Long projectable frame at 6-foot-4 with long limbs. Like some others Jack showed some two-way potential. At the plate displayed some aggression and had some whip in the barrel getting it through. Defensively showed best in the outfield where he threw a positional best 88 mph with plenty of carry. Long term, Kaczmarek’s best fit may be on the mound. Easy 81-83 mph on the fastball with what appeared to be plenty more in the tank. Offspeed stuff is still developing, but shows a lot of promise on all three secondary pitches with present armspeed. This is definitely an arm to watch grow as we go into the spring season.

Samuel Kaczmarek SS / 3B / Patrick Henry, VA / 2023

Athletic frame for the 5-foot-9 infielder. One of the better infielders on the day. Hands work well, moves through the ball at catch, and accurate throws across. Offensively displayed some pull side tendency to the swing that had uphill path. Has the potential to be a really nice player up the middle of the infield.

Julian La Bella OF / 1B / Broad Run, VA / 2021

Strong athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. At the plate La Bella started with an open athletic stance and stayed inside the ball well, using the middle and right side with line drive tendency. Solid defender in the outfield with nice glove presentation and worked through the catch well. Runs well enough to contribute at all three outfield spots and has the arm strength to go with it.

Lincoln Lubsen C / RHP / Walsingham Academy, VA / 2021

Lubsen is another two-way potential player. On the day Lubsen really stood out on both sides of the ball, as well as on the mound. He posted the top fastball at 85 mph, top catcher velocity at 79 mph, lowest range on pop times, and second highest exit velo at 90 mph. He is a big physical athlete at 6-foot-3, 200-pounds with present strength to the frame and has some fluidity to his game. Behind the plate is a solid catch and throw guy. Receives well, quick clean exchange on pops, and throws show plenty of carry. Offensively displays a simple efficient setup and load. Ball explodes off the bat with present gap to gap power. On the mound the fastball worked downhill and got up to 85 mph. Lubsen impressed in the VISAA tournament and he did not disappoint at the RVA Review.

Aidan McDonald SS / 2B / Independence, VA / 2022

Very impressive day for the 5-foot-9 athletic framed McDonald. Offensively showed a compact efficient swing with consistent loud barrels. Worked gap to gap with plenty of carry showing power potential. Defensively was fluid on approach. Fielded out front with above average hands and had ample arm strength across. Showed comfort throwing from a variety of slots and making plays on the run. Nice looking athletic infielder to keep an eye on moving forward.
