Ocean Lakes pulled out an extra inning thriller at home on Thursday May 26, as Trevor Selph delivered a walk-off single to give the Dolphins a hard fought  4-3 victory over Western Branch.

Ocean Lakes

Blake Dickerson LHP / Ocean Lakes, VA / 2023

The 6-foot-6 Virginia Tech commit entered with a 2-2 count and two runners on base. He proceeded to blow a 91 mph fastball by the hitter to get Ocean Lakes out of a jam. After that Dickerson held velo between 89-91 mph and touched 92 once. While the velo was impressive, mostly 90-91 mph heaters, his ability to pound the strike zone was refreshing to see. Dickerson brings an easy operation, normal effort, and some polish to the mechanics and delivery. He did not get a ton of whiffs on the fastball, but did not find many barrels either. Threw only a small sample size of secondary pitches, a breaking ball at 75-77 mph that tended to miss down and a changeup with a little fade at 83-84 mph. This is definitely a name to look for through the summer and as we creep towards the 2023 draft next spring.

Western Branch

Logan Adams 2B / OF / Western Branch, VA / 2025

I have been thoroughly impressed with this 2025 corner infielder over the past two weeks. Adams continues to show some advanced abilities on the offensive side. Does not appear tot be overmatched at the plate, comfortable at bats and swings, and is a solid defender as well. Long term I think third base, which is where he plays now, and second are where he fits best. Had two big hits on the day, one a single on an elevated changeup and the other a single to pull the Bruins within one with two outs in the seventh inning. Feel for the barrel, short to contact, and uses the whole field.

Gavin Biernot LHP / 1B / Western Branch, VA / 2024

This is my first look at the long, lanky left handed arm. Loose arm, works from a low three-quarter slot, and a fairly low effort delivery. The arm has some funk to it when he turns it over on the backside and whippy action through release. Did flash a few, what appeared to be breaking balls, but they were loose in shape. The fastball and changeup were the main go to pitches on the day. Sat 77-80 mph, touching 81 once, and staying mostly 79-80. Biernot was not afraid to use the 71-73 mph changeup, as it was his go to pitch to try and end the right hander's at bats. Got into a couple of tight spots and did a really nice job of working out, especially for it being his first playoff game.

Hunter Johnson 1B / 3B / Western Branch, VA / 2022

Jackson Tone C / OF / Western Branch, VA / 2022

Nic Poole OF / Western Branch, VA / 2023

This is a bat that continues to trend up. I saw him last week and liked what I saw, but he was not facing any velo/pitch mix. Today he faced two D1 arms and handled himself just fine. Easy lift and load, stays in rhythm, and adjusts on two strikes. Uses the middle backside of the field and is an average/above average runner. Accurate barrel and seems to be able to slow at bats down and work at his tempo. Intriguing uncommitted outfielder that has shown a really solid offensive profile.
