Southern Maryland ID: 2017 & 2018 Analysis

The Southern Maryland ID took place on August 9th, 2016. over 20 prospects from around the Southern region of Maryland and across the state took part in the event in front of the PBR Maryland staff and local colleges. Today we break down the 2017 and 2018 grads from the event.

Jacob Grueninger C Calvert Hall 2018
Athletic frame at 6-foot, 175-pounds. Hits from a tall set up. Short quick laod to hitting position. Uphill swing path with extension and average bat speed. Nice rhythm and shows balance throughout. Could get more lower half. Quick exchange with short arm actions throwing to second base. Pop time ranged 2.21-2.33. Ran a 7.70 60-yard dash with 71 mph catcher velo. Had an outfield velocity of 79 mph.

Tyler Harding RHP/SS Cambridge South Dorchester 2018
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds. Hits from a wider, athletic set up at the plate. Short quick load. Level swing path with quick hands and some bat speed. Shows some extension through contact. Likes to elevate the baseball at times. Good balance and rhythm through swing. Sound actions defensively. Clean, quick exchange with a short arm actions throwing from a ¾ angle. Gets rid of ball quick with pace on throws. 79 mph velo across diamond, 84 exit velo, and ran a 6.99 60-yard dash…Shorter athletic arm action and created some arm speed. Get lower half involved and could get better hip load. Controlled delivery throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Low glove side with slight finish to first base side. Change up shows fade on the pitch with near fastball arm speed. Breaking ball has short and quick 10/4 action with near fastball arm speed. Fastball shows slight run on the pitch up to 82 mph and sat 80-82 during the bull pen.

Jake Pecilunas RHP St. John’s 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds. Controlled quick delivery. Longer free arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Creates fast arm speed. High leg kick with some hip load and gets some lower half involvement. Lands square to the plate. Fastball jumps out and has some sink on the pitch up to 85 mph. Changeup has fade to the pitch with a slower arm speed on the pitch at 72-74 mph. Breaking ball has nice 10/4 action with put-away potential and later break. Nice rotation on the pitch at 70 mph.

Jordan Price OF Westminster 2017
Athletic frame at 6-foot, 160-pounds. Ran a 6.87 60-yard dash. Hits from an athletic slightly open set up. Short quick load to hitting position. Has a short level swing path that gets uphill at times. Get nice lower half involvement and creates some bat speed at the plate. Shows some strength with an 86 mph exit velocity. Has active feet in the outfield with sound fundamentals. Works thru the ball well. Clean exchange throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws have some carry on them at 83 mph.

Blake Rebstock OF Chesapeake 2017
Lanky frame at 6-foot-2, 160-pounds. Hits from a wider set up. Short quick load to hitting position. Level swing path with average bat speed and some strength. Nice rhythm throughout and some balance. Sound actions from the outfield. Longer arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot with an outfield velocity of 80 mph. Exit velocity of 84 mph and ran a 7.14 60-yard dash.

Jack Stines OF Urbana 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. Hits from Fro an athletic set up. Quick load with good balance. Shorter swing path with some extension. Elevated the ball well with some drive. Nice rhythm and shows some pull side power potential. Sound actions from the outfield. Clean exchange with a longer arm action from the outfield. Throws had some carry on them at 86 mph. Exit velocity of 86 mph and ran a 6.94 on the day.

Shelby Wheeler RHP Annapolis 2018
Long lanky frame at 6-foot-3, 170-pounds. Long free arm action, average loer half that should improve. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot, with average arm speed. Controlled delivery with some pace. Very projectable pitching with easy effort. Fastball has slight cut on the pitch up to 75 mph. Breaking ball has gradual break on the pitch with 11/5 action at 65 mph. Changeup has near fastball arm speed at 69 mph. More in tank and interesting to see how develops.
