With Fall Signing Day behind us and the 2017 season essentially complete, PBR VA/DC will look ahead to the upcoming spring and the 2018 season in our Spring Forward series, which will run on the website in the coming weeks. In this series, we will focus primarily on players that we have seen this year and are looking forward to seeing again in 2018, these posts will not have anything to with prospect rankings.

Today we will look at the position players from the Richmond area that have game-changing speed and athleticism that we are excited to see again in 2018.

SPRING FORWARD: RVA Athletes

Ricky Jones OF / Hopewell , VA / 2019

We saw Jones during the 3A Region playoffs, just before he verbally committed to Richmond. He seems to glide in the outfield, taking great routes to balls and covering a ton of ground. He also got up the line in an impressive time on a groundout considering he fell to a knee after contact. We look forward to seeing him again and how his speed can take over a game as well as how his athleticism continues to project onto the field.

Gregory Ryan SS / Benedictine, VA / 2018

We have seen Ryan a lot over the years and it has been a pleasure to watch the Pittsburgh commit take his raw athleticism and begin to use it on the field. He has always had a quickness in his hands and feet that were exciting, and it began to manifest last spring as he started making plays that few can at short with his quickness and arm. At the plate, he still has plenty of untapped upside with the ability to simply flick his wrists and drive the ball to all fields.

callaway sigler of / benedictine, VA / 2018

Sigler is a James Madison commit who has a very advanced bat but also is a 6.72 runner. Sigler's bat overshadows his speed, but he has plenty of it and he covers a lot of ground in the outfield.

Tevin Tucker SS / Prince George, VA / 2018

Tucker stole the show for Team Mid-Atlantic at the 2016 Future Games, running a 6.71 and showing actions and handspeed that impressed our national scouting staff. Tucker has the ability to take over a game once he is on base, and not only has the speed to swipe bases, but has an very good understanding of how to get a good jump. The West Virginia commit still has a ton of untapped potential and we look forward to seeing where he stands this spring.

Nigel Williams SS / Collegiate, VA / 2020

Williams caught our eye as an eighth grader in 2016 when he started at second base for the eventual VISAA Division I State Champs. He is a multisport athlete with very athletic actions and a very high ceiling. He has the athletic talent to potentially end up as the top prospect in his class at some point.

Jay Woolfolk SS / RHP Benedictine, VA / 2021

Woolfolk is a multisport athlete who started at quarterback for the Benedictine Varsity football team as a freshman. We saw him on a weekend during football season, and he was impressive. Very good actions at short with quick hands and a strong arm. He had an explosive lower half at the plate and a knack for barreling the ball with some batspeed. He didn't pitch when we saw him, and we look forward to seeing that in 2018.

NICK ZONA RHP / SS HANOVER, VA / 2018

Zona has signed with James Madison and ran a 6.72 during the summer of 2017 on the pro showcase circuit. He is still a two-way prospect that could go either way, flashing the ability to hit 90 on the mound or throw that across the infield. His line drive swing has plenty of juice and there is still upside to him as he taps into his athleticism.
