Quick hits from our coverage of the #PBRSpringLeague in Hampton, VA at War Memorial Stadium.

Jake Colucci RHP / 1B / Frank W. Cox, VA / 2024

Ryan Delashmutt RHP / OF / Frank W. Cox, VA / 2024

Frank Engel C / 3B / Grafton, VA / 2022

We have featured Engel in previous weeks and spoke about his velo and ceiling. In previous outings, while he has flashed the ability to climb to 88-89 with the fastball, he has not had the best control. During his outing today he dialed the velocity back to the 81-83 mph range and showed much better feel for the zone. He was able to get on top of the ball and work down in the zone. The one thing the Engel has not shown was a breaking ball. Engel threw 3-4 breaking balls in this short outing and landing about 75% of them for strikes, including one to end the final at bat in a strikeout looking. If he can stay around the zone with the fastball and have some feel for secondary it should help him with confidence and in turn allow him to settle in with the velocity a little better, as the arm strength is definitely there.

Carson Goad 1B / OF / Maury, VA / 2023

We have talked about Goad in previous weeks, but once again he impressed on the offensive side. He is a strong physical presence that could have long term ability to stay in the middle of a lineup and drive in runs. Had a deep AB earlier in the game where he flashed ability to turn on the fastball and has an aggressive approach at the plate. Later in the game he turned around a 78 mph fastball over the left center field fence. Goad showed controlled intent in the swing and has the strength in the physical frame to make him a legitimate power threat, especially to the pull side. This will be an interesting follow going forward to see how well he can handle upper tier arms.

Dylan Wood 2025 RHP/2B Greenbrier Christian

Tyler Frostad 2023 LHP Frank W. Cox

Athletic frame with projection left. Really liked what I saw in about 1.2 innings of work. Frostad worked with pace and attacked the zone with two pitches. The arm was short and clean on the backside. Created plane with the fastball and the breaking ball was a legitimate out pitch that he could consistently throw for strikes. The fastball was 77-81 and came out of the hand fairly easy. Breaking ball had tight 12/6 shape at 67-69 mph. If the velo can continue to climb the secondary is good enough to make this a legitimate follow long term.
