TPG West: Primary Catcher Breakdown

On June 23, over 70 players from all corners of the Commonwealth took part in our Top Prospect Games West. We continue our detailed breakdown of those players today with the outfielders:

Micah Canterbury C / 3B / Buffalo Gap, VA / 2023

Canterbury is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open taller athletic stance, strides on line, short load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Uphill swing with extension through the ball, showed a pull preference with some natural loft in his swing, also showed ability to use whole field, exit velocity was 84. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 74 and pop times 2.01-2.13. Very accurate with his throws.

Anthony Connor C / 2B / Glen Allen, VA / 2022

Connor is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an open leaned back athletic stance, strides on line, short load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, uphill swing path, showed a pull preference with some natural loft in his swing, exit velocity was 74. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 70 and pop times 2.08-2.18. Showed some accuracy on his throwdowns. Ran a 7.08 60 yard dash.

Joey Duffer C / 1B / Halifax, VA / 2021

Duffer is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, slightly uphill swing path, showed a good approach using whole field, strong at contact with some extension through the ball, doubles power to all fields, exit velocity was 93. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 78 and pop times 1.93-2.02. Showed some accuracy on his throwdowns. Ran a 7.55 60 yard dash.

Jerrod Jenkins C / RHP / Millbrook , VA / 2022

Jenkins is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has some strength on it and some projection left to it. He is a switch hitter, from the right side, a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, minimal load back. Hips rotate and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill swing path, showed a good approach using whole field, strong at contact. From the left side, open athletic stance, strides on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill swing path, showed a good approach using whole field, strong at contact with extension through the ball. Best exit velocity was 85. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 77 and pop times 2.05-2.12. Showed some accuracy on his throwdowns. Ran a 7.45 60 yard dash.

Jackson Murphy C / RHP / Briar Woods, VA / 2021

Murphy is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, showed a good approach using whole field, strong at contact, exit velocity was 84. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 72 and pop times 2.06-2.18.

Jackson Severt C / OF / Dinwiddie, VA / 2021

Severt has committed to Hampden-Sydney and is 6-1 with a lankier athletic frame that has some strength plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, uphill swing path, showed a pull approach, good extension through the ball, swing generates loft and carry, exit velocity was 90. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 77 and pop times 1.93-2.03. Throws had some accuracy. Showed versatility taking balls in the outfield where his velocity was 89. Ran a 7.11 60 yard dash.

Tyler Sparrer C / 1B / Auburn, VA / 2022

Sparrer is 6-1 with a strong frame. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, uphill swing path, showed a pull approach, some strength at contact and extension through the ball, swing generates loft, exit velocity was 85. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 72 and pop times 1.98-2.14. Very accurate on his throw downs.

Caden Swartley C / OF / Turner Ashby, VA / 2023

Swartley is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, showed a pull approach, swing generates loft, exit velocity was 79. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 69 and pop times 2.09-2.21. Showed some accuracy.

Tanner Thomas C / 3B / Liberty Christian Academy, VA / 2022

Thomas is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides in place, short load back, has rhythm. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, showed a pull approach, strong at contact with some whip to his bat, power is present, exit velocity was 91.
