The 2015 Prep Baseball Report Top Prospect Games took place Tuesday, June 30th at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. 51 of the top 2016, 2017, and select 2018 prospects came and put their ability on display in front of the PBR scouting staff and many college coaches from around the area.

Over the course of this week were will be releasing position-by-position analysis articles with scouting reports on each player and identifying the top prospects.  Two-way prospects will appear in a positional analysis as well as pitching analysis.  We shall identify top prospects in each positional breakdown along with a younger talent (2018, 2019) as a Future Watch if applicable.

Today we look at the Infielders that participated in the event. A very talented group that came to the event made for some tough decisions for the Top Performers.   

Top Performers

Jordan Hutchins SS Dover 2016
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10 175 pounds.  Hits from a slightly open stance in an athletic set up.  Smooth load and short stride. Short and level bat path with bat speed.  Has balance throughout swing. Decent lower half and could get more from it. Line drive type hitter. Has a short arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Throws were accurate and consistent across the diamond with some life at 83 mph.  Soft hands and fluid footwork with a clean exchange.   Ran a 4.51 home to first and had an exit velocity of 88 mph. 

John Palin 3B/1B Riverdale Baptist
Solid and strong frame at 5-foot-11 215-pounds. Hits from an open set up with a short stride. Good lower half involvement in swing.  Power hitter to pull side with extension through contact. Short bat path with fast bat speed.  Fluid footwork with quick actions at third base.  Nice hands with a clean exchange that could be a little quicker. Throws had life on them across the diamond at 85 mph.  Loose arm action from a high ¾ arm angle.  Ran a 4.65 home-to-first with an exit velocity of 91 mph. 

Michael Richardson SS Cambridge South Dorchester 2016
Athletic frame at 6-foot-1 160 pounds.  Has a short path to the ball with fast bat speed and some extension through contact.  Gap-to-gap type hitter.  Good balance in swing. Has a loose arm action throwing from a ¾ arm angle.  Throws had carry on them at 79 mph.  Soft hands with active and fluid footwork. Clean exchange.  Ran 4.41 home to first and had an exit velocity of 85 mph.

Jack Roberts SS/3B St. John’s College 2017
Athletic frame at 6-foot-1 185-pounds.  Hits from a slightly open set up with nice rhythm throughout his swing.  Simple load and short stride gets to balanced hitting position.  Short swing path with fast bat speed and some extension.  Line drive type hitter with power potential. Fluid actions in the field, with a short and quick arm actions throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Throws were consistent with some carry across the diamond at 80 mph. Soft hands with a clean exchange.  Ran a 4.55 home to first and had an exit velocity of 82.  Excellent approach and patience at the plate.

Future Watch

Reese Crounse 3B/SS Patuxent 2018
Solid frame at 5-foot-10 180-pounds.  Hits from a balanced set up.  Leg lift in load with stride.  Shorter bat path that gets out of the zone quickly on a few swings. Pull type hitter with potential for some pop.  Gets lower half involved. Solid foundation as a hitter to build upon. Moves well from the third base position with quick actions.  Throws from a high ¾ arm angle across with a short arm action at 72 mph.  A lot of raw ability.  Quick feet will get better as he stays on the balls of his feet more. Clean exchange. Ran a 4.68 home to first and had an exit velocity of 81 mph.

John Andreoli SS Salesianum 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10 165-pounds. Hits from an athletic and balanced set up.  Rhythm in load with a short stride.  Quick bat speed with a level path and some extension through contact.  Gets lower half involvement. Active feet from the middle.  Has a short arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle.  Throws were accurate and consistent with a velocity of 77 mph.  Soft and quick hands with a quick exchange getting rid of the baseball. Ran a 4.6 home to first and had an exit velocity of 84 mph. 

Kyle Benjamin SS Bishop McNamara 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11 165-pounds. Hits from an open set up with a longer stride. Short bat path to the ball with some bat speed. Stays inside the baseball with some extension. Good balance in swing.  As he gets more consistent with lower half involvement could create some more pop. Active and fluid footwork from the middle infield.  Loose arm action throwing from a ¾ arm angle. Throws were accurate and consistent at 77 mph across the diamond. Clean exchange and works through the ball. Ran a 4.56 home to first and had an exit velocity of 81 mph.

Kristan Curry Jr. SS Avalon 2017
Solid and athletic frame at 5-foot9 170-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up with a short bat path and some bat speed. Shows some rhythm and has a short stride and quick load.  Could increase lower half involvement. Gap-to-gap type hitter.  Active feet with solid actions.  Could smoothen out a bit.  Short arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle.  Throws were accurate with some carry at 75 mph.  Plays thru the ball well.  Some raw ability still in the player that has athleticism to play multiple positions. 

Joe Hall SS DeMatha 2016
Hits from a slightly open set up.  Short stride and fluid load.  Has rhythm in swing.  Short bat path with some bat speed.  Stays inside the baseball.  Some lower half involvement and room for more. Consistently gets barrel on the ball. Fluid actions from the infield.  Loose arm action from a low ¾ arm angle.  Throws had some carry across the diamond at 76 mph.  Soft hands, quick and active feet, and a clean exchange.  Ran a 4.53 home to first and had an exit velocity of 76 mph. 

Nick Hopkins SS/2B St. Mary’s 2018
Athletic frame with room to fill out at 5-foot-9 150-pounds. Switch hitter with balanced set up on both sides.  Shorter path as right and more level path as lefty.  Similar short load and stride on both sides.  Slap style hitter as a lefty and more middle gap-to-gap right handed. As he gets stronger should increase barrel control. Fluid actions in the field.  Soft hands and a quick exchange.  Active feet with a short arm action throwing from a low ¾ arm angle. Throws across the infield had velocity of 74 mph.  Highest exit velocity was 77 (RH) and ran a 4.34 home to first.

Eric Lansinger SS/OF Damascus 2017
Athletic frame at 6-foot-1 180-pounds.  Balanced set up with high hands and a short and simple load/stride.  Good athletic position upon foot strike.  Short and level bat path through the zone with fast bat speed.  Gap-to-gap approach with some potential for some power.  Sound footwork with a clean exchange.  Loose arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle across the diamond at 77 mph. throws were consistent. Played through the ball well with fluid hands. Ran a 4.42 home to first and had an exit velocity of 89 mph. 

Jordan Marvel 3B/1B/RHP Sussex Tech 2017
Solid frame at 6-foot-1 210-pounds.  Hits from a slightly open set up with a leg kick in stride.  Good balance in swing.  Short path in swing with some extension.  Has rhythm throughout swing.  Pull side power potential. Has a quick arm action throwing from a low ¾ arm angle at third base.  Throws have carry across the diamond at 77 mph. Hands are clean and confident first step.  Ran a 4.79 home to first and had an exit velocity of 91 mph.

Jacob Paulishak SS/RHP Middletown 2017
Long athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds. Hits from a slightly open and tall set up with a smooth load and good balance after short stride. Short bat path with some bat speed and pull side power potential.  Gap-to-gap style hitter. Stays inside the ball. Sound footwork in the middle with a clean exchange.  Longer arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle.  Throws were accurate and consistent and had a velocity of 77 mph across the diamond.  Ran a 4.64 home to first and had an exit velocity of 85 mph. 

Max Rogers 3B/SS Mount St. Joseph 2016
Long athletic frame at 6-foot-2 190-pounds.  Athletic set up at the plate with short and simple stride/load. Level bat path with some bat speed.  Line drive type hitter with some pull side power potential.  Good balance in swing and could increase half involvement. Fluid footwork at third base with soft hands and a clean exchange.  Loose arm action from a ¾ arm angle across the diamond with carry on them at 81 mph.  Ran a 4.78 home to first and had an exit velocity of 91 mph.

Connor Shockley 3B/SS Parkside 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11 165-pounds.  Athletic third baseman that could also play a middle position.  Quick and active feet with soft hands and a fluid and quick exchange. Loose arm action throwing from a ¾ arm angle. Throws have some carry on them across the diamond and were accurate at 79 mph.  Plays thru the ball. Hits from a slightly open set up with a short stride. Level swing path with quick bat speed and extension through contact. Gap-to-gap type hitter.  Ran a 4.61 home to first and had an exit velocity of 83 mph.
