Scouting Report from the Top Prospect Games:

Kreyer is 5-foot-11 and has a strong lower half on his frame. He throws from a high three-quarters slot and has a short arm action as he wraps his wrist. He is smooth and stays on line and finishes his mechanics in a good fielding position. Kreyer’s fastball sat 80-82 and touched 83 on the day. He threw two breaking balls, a 12/6 curveball with a big, gradual break that was 64-65 MPH and a sharp slider that ran 2/8 and 67-69. He also flashed a fading change-up at 73. Kreyer commanded all of his pitches well and did an outstanding job of mixing locations and pitch types to keep hitters off balance. He clearly has a good feel for how to pitch.

Meet Brett Kreyer...

PBR:  At what point in your career did you become serious about taking your game to the next level?

Kreyer: When I made my high school varsity team as a freshman, that's when I really started to think about my future in baseball, and I knew that I wanted to play baseball for as long as I possibly can.

PBR: What are you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at? Feel free to elaborate as much as possible

Kreyer: I am looking for a college program that is strong academically, and has a strong and competitive baseball program that works hard to win baseball games.  I hope that the college I choose will prepare me for my future in the real world and in baseball.

PBR: What schools do you have interest in?

Kreyer: UVA, William & Mary, UNC, Columbia University, Radford, CNU, Appalachian State, Duke, High Point, VCU and ECU are among the schools I'm interested in.  I'm continuing to explore all my options.

PBR: What factors will sway your decision in choosing a college?

Kreyer: The school's academics, how well I fit into the baseball program, and the campus will all help me make a decision.

PBR: Where if any have you made visits to?

Kreyer: I visited William & Mary most recently.  I've also visited several schools on my own to get a feel for the campus and facilities.

PBR: What colleges have you been in contact with?

Kreyer: UVA, William & Mary, Radford, Columbia, and CNU are among the schools that I remain in frequent contact with.  I'm in contact with many other schools as well as I’m looking at a variety of schools.

PBR: Do you have any timetable as to when you are looking to make your decision?

Kreyer: I don't really have a timetable to make my decision. Once I have found a school that I'm really happy with and think I will enjoy then I will make my choice.  How I think I'll fit in academically and in the baseball program will both be important factors.  It would be great to find the school that fits me best sometime soon, but in the meantime I'll continue to explore all my options.

PBR:  What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?

Kreyer: During the offseason my high school team does indoor hitting sessions and yoga. Personally, I don't throw during the offseason, usually November until sometime in January.  During that time, I work on building up my core and arm strength by lifting, doing yoga to increase my flexibility, and doing an arm care program that focuses on increasing velocity and preventing injury.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point

Kreyer: My most memorable moment would be when I came in to pitch in the 5A Regional Championship game during my high school season Sophomore year. I came into the game with runners on base in the 6th inning and my team up by one run.  I collected a 4 out save, striking out 2 batters, including one with the bases loaded to end the game.  It was the first ever 5A Regional Championship in the 14 year history of Stone Bridge HS.  It was a very exciting game.

PBR:  How are your academics? GPA? ACT? SAT? Any academic awards?

Kreyer: My cumulative GPA is 3.85 as of the end of my Sophomore year.  I made the Stone Bridge HS Athletic Honor Roll as a freshman and as a sophomore.  During my junior year, I am now taking 2 AP classes and a honors class, as well as several classes that should help me towards a Computer Science degree in college. I plan on taking the SAT for the first time in November.

PBR: How was your high school season last year? Team record? Post season awards? Stats?

Kreyer: During my 2014 Spring high school season, my Stone Bridge HS team went 23-2, winning 22 straight games and going to States for the first time in Stone Bridge's 14 year history.  I went 7-1, including 4 CG shutouts, with my only loss being the State Semi-finals game.  Overall I pitched 58.2 IP this past Spring, collecting 51 K, a 1.17 WHIP, and a 1.31 ERA.  I received 2nd Team All-Conference Honors as a Sophomore pitcher, and I was named to the 2013-2014 All Loudoun Team.  I was also selected to compete for the State of VA in the Inaugural Virginia Futures vs. Maryland Futures High School All Star Game.  I tossed a 1-2-3 inning in that game at Bowie Baysox Stadium in Maryland.

PBR: Preview your high school season? How will your team be this year? Expectations?

Kreyer: I think that my high school team will be even better this season than last.  We only lost 4 seniors, and have lots of juniors and seniors that were on varsity last year who should be returning. I expect that we will do just as good if not better than we did last year now that most of the returning team has more experience in the high school playoffs.  We plan to work hard so we can make it even further in the 2015 HS State tournament.  I'm really looking forward to the next high school season!
