Scouting Report

3.15.17: Athletic projectable pitchers frame with strong lower half and developing upper body. Compact delivery with balance throughout. Loose athletic arm action throwing from a three-quarter slot. Consistent lower half, can generate velo with easy effort. Clean finish square to the plate with occasional fall off to third base side. Physically advanced for his age and more growing to do. Fastball showed late life on the pitch with run and sink. Breaking ball has short 1/7 action on the pitch with fastball arm speed.

+2019 LHP Carson Jones (Steward HS, VA), a Virginia commit, struggled a bit with command during his three innings of work, but his long, loose arm could not be ignored.  Jones sat 84-87 mph throughout the outing with a smooth motion delivering from a low ¾ arm slot.  The left-hander has long limbs, and is still maturing physically, so there will almost assuredly be more velocity on the way.

5.16.16:  Jones is a lanky lefty that throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. He has a quick arm, generating velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are closed as he strides to a closed landing with a fall off. His fastball had late run, sitting 82-83 and touching 84.

Scouting Report

On the Hunt 10.21.17

Lawson first caught my eye at the Underclass Area Code Games in August, and looks to have matured even more since that time. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Tennessee recruit looks to have added some muscle in the past couple of months, and appears even more comfortable in the box where he had multiple, quality at-bats on the evening. Also a talented pitcher, Lawson looked the part at shortstop on this night where he made some nice plays moving effortlessly side to side.

5.1.17: Lawson has an athletic frame, he has quick feet and later good range at short, able to get up the middle and cover the hole easily. Very smooth, clean actions, plays through the ball well with good hands. Throws from a side arm slot with a short, loose arm action and some arm strength when he needs it. Shows good awareness in the field. Open athletic stance, short stride on line and smooth load back, good rhythm. Short to ball and extends through it with some batspeed. Showed good adjustment to approach in his third at-bat, cutting down swing with two strikes to put ball in play for a sacrifice fly, driving in an insurance run.

10.16 - Projectable athletic frame at 6-1 170-pounds. Hits from an athletic open set up with square hips. Long, low leg lift to stride in load. Slight drift at times. Level swing path with more of a pull type swing though does stay inside ball well at time. Quick hands. Solid actions in the field. Clean hands exchange and short arm action. throws have some life across the diamond...Nice tempo in a compact delivery. Short quick arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm angle. Nice lower half through finish and quick arm action. Athletic finish. 11/5 breaking ball with gradual break proper shape to get better. FB up to 85 mph

1.18.16:  Lawson has a lanky 6-1 frame and a decent arm action. His fastball sat 78-80 and showed some feel for his change-up.

Scouting Report

12.2.16 - Rivera is a projectable prospect on the mound with his frame and fast arm speed. Has some mechanical adjustments to make, but flashes top end arm speed with a fastball that has been up to 87 mph and given time with frame can add to that making for a potential high end arm.

7.31.16:  Rivera has an athletic frame. In the field, has a loose, strong arm that is accurate. Good footwork and doesn’t rush. Hits from the right side, athletic stance with load back and big leg kick stride. Decent balance throughout swing and quick hands with above average bat speed. Easy doubles power with potential for more.
