With the playoffs just about fully underway in Virginia, we will begin running our scoreboard daily.

Power 25 Rankings in the scoreboard reflect where a team was ranked at the time the game was played.

 

VA/DC SCOREBOARD: June 5

 

Class 1

Patrick Henry (Glade Spring) 3, Auburn 2
Connor Buchanan threw a complete game in the win, striking out 7 and allowing just 6 hits. Buchanan also led the offense going 2-3. Drew Miller drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Honaker 2, Galax 1
Chris Marshall struck out 9 in 5 innings to earn a no-decision. Honaker scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh on an error. Jacob Stuart was strong on the mound for Galax, allowing just 5 hits and striking out 8 in a complete game.

Riverheads 11, West Point 6
Riverheads put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to break the game open. Grant Painter (James Madison) was 3-4 with a BB and Braeson Fulton (James Madison) was 2-2 with a BB and 2 RBIs while Elijah Dunlap had the big day, going 3-4 with 5 RBIs and a 2B. Luke Ainger and Noah Lawson hit home runs for the Pointers.

Northumberland 7, Central-Lunenberg 0
Nick Bayse threw a 4-hit shutout as the Indians advanced to the semifinals. Blake Edwards was 3-3 with a 2B and 2 RBIs and Lucas Smith was also 2-3 with an RBI.

 

Class 2

Goochland 1, Stuart’s Draft 0
Wyatt Murray threw a 2-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts as he outdueled Trevor Craig. Craig didn’t allow an earned run and also only allowed 2 hits in his complete game.

Page County 8, Maggie Walker 2
The Governors cut their deficit to 3-2 with a run in the top of the fifth before Page County was able to rally and put the game away. Freshman TR Williams allowed 2 hits in 6 innings while striking out 15. Jake Day was 2-3 with a 3B, a home run, and 4 RBIs for Page and Cole Ragone had a home run for Maggie Walker.

Virginia 4, Appomattox 1
Jordan Dixon threw a complete game and struck out 10 hitters in the win while also picking up an RBI at the plate. Bobby Medley was 2-3 for with a 3B and an RBI and Tyler Anderson also had a 3B and an RBI.

Chatham 13, Tazewell 4
AJ Potojecki (Longwood) struck out 8 in five innings as the Cavaliers used a 7-run fourth to jump out to a 10-0 lead before cruising to the semifinals. Grayson Reed was 4-5 with 3 RBIs and came up a 2B short of the cycle. Grant Reynolds was also 4-4 with 3 RBIs.

 

Class 3

No. 11 Abingdon 6, Western Albemarle 3
Cade Hungate (Florida State) was the winning pitcher and Tanner Barrs (Radford) hit a home run and earned the save. Thomas Francisco (East Carolina) added to his career hit record with a 3-hit night.

Fluvanna County 5, Northside 1
Andrew Ward and Toby Sherman combined to hold Northside to just six hits as the Flucos advanced to the State semifinals. Dashon Carter was 1-2 with 3 RBIs in the win. Brea Farrell was 2-3 and Sam McLaughlin threw 3 innings of scoreless relief for the Vikings.

Brentsville District 4, York 1
York got a run in the top of the first but then Mason Posey (George Mason) shut the Falcons down after that, striking out eight and holding York to only 2 hits while also going 1-2 with 3 RBIs and 2 BB at the plate. Sam Llaneza was 2-3 with a 2B and Billy Hoad was 2-4 and stole 2 bases.

Spotsylvania 5, Hopewell 2
Eugene Snyder struck out 8 and allowed 3 hits in six innings to pick up the win. Trevor Crosson was 3-4 and Jonathan Rivard (Virginia Tech) and Dale Roop each had 2 RBIs for the Knights. Ricky Jones (Richmond) was 1-3 with 2 RBIs for Hopewell.

 

Class 4

Salem (Roanoke) 7, Woodgrove 2
Woodgrove scored their runs in the top of the first on a Brady Drawbaugh home run, but Zian Honaker and Caleb Lingenfelter combined to hold the Wolverines to just one more hit the rest of the way. Jadon Fetrow was 3-4 with an RBI and 3 SBs and Joe Quinn and Hunter Clifton each had 2 RBIs. See our full game recap.

Fauquier 3, Amherst County 2
Lane Pearson picked up the win and Carson McCusker threw 2.2 innings to earn the save as the Falcons advanced to the semifinals. Blaze O’Saben (UMBC) was 1-2 with a BB and a 2B and McCusker was 1-1 with 2 BBs, 2 RBIs, and a SB. Tyler Hargis was 2-3 for Amherst.

No. 13 Grafton 3, No. 10 Powhatan 0
Trey Gibson threw 4-hit shutout while striking out 7 as the Clippers scored all of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gibson was also 1-3 with an RBI and Jack Daszkowski had 2 RBIs as well. Nick Rini (Lackawanna JC) was 2-3 for Powhatan.

Jamestown 7, Dinwiddie 3

Class 5

No. 15 Freedom (South Riding) 5, Halifax County 4
Freedom jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on to win as Jonathan Fisher shut the door at the end of the game to send the Eagles to the semifinals. Kyle Schofield (Frederick CC) had a 2B and 2 RBIs and Will Schroeder (North Carolina) drew two BBs. Will Scheier hit a home run and Drew Harlow (Radford) struck out 6 in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief for Halifax.

Potomac 3, No. 23 Briar Woods 1
Brody Mack earned the win with 6.2 innings of work, allowing just 6 hits while also going 1-2 with a BB at the plate. For Briar Woods, George Rosales (Fairleigh Dickinson) was 2-2 with a BB.

Deep Run 8, Maury 6
Maury jumped out to a 3-0 lead early before the Wildcats scored 7 unanswered runs to build a lead. The Commodores fought back with 3 in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-6 but Deep Run was able to hang on to win. Scott Sweeney was 2-3 with a 3B and Hayes Fallen was 2-2 with a 2B and 3 RBIs for Deep Run. Robert Hoeft was 2-3 with a BB for Maury.

No. 20 Prince George 8, Menchville 1
Buck Forbes held Menchville to one run on 7 hits in 6 innings to earn the win. Quincy Sippio, Tevin Tucker (West Virginia), Justin Starke (VMI), and Brandon Hatcher all had multi-hit games for the Royals and while Tucker also had 2 RBIs and Starke hit a home run. Kade Abrisz was 2-3 for Menchville.

 

Class 6

Thomas Dale 7, First Colonial 0
Karson Jennings threw a 3-hit shutout while also having a 2-3 day at the plate. Drew Camp (Louisburg JC) had a home run and Tyler Bailey was also 2-5 for the Knights.

Western Branch 7, Cosby 1
Antonio Velazquez allowed one hit in a complete game while also going 1-3 with a walk. Connor Butler was 2-3 with a 2B and a home run and 2 RBIs and Ethan Alexander was 2-3 as the defending champs advanced to the semifinals.

No. 2 Lake Braddock 6, No. 18 Battlefield 5
The Bruins scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to rally to win. Jack Darcy had the big blow in the comeback with a 2-run triple that gave the Bruins the lead. Lyle Miller-Green earned the win with 3.2 innings of 2-hit relief. Matt Thomas (William & Mary) was also 2-4. Jake Michna (Queens) was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Reese Varley (UMBC) had a 2B for Battlefield.

West Springfield 4, Chantilly 2
Jared Lyons (George Mason) had a 3-hit shutout going into the seventh inning and ended the day allowing just five hits in six innings while striking out 8. Calvin Pastel was 2-3 with a BB and shut the door in the seventh while both Nick Johnson and Brett Stallings (Frederick CC) had 2 RBIs each.
