Has plenty of arm strength to play third, as he posted a 87 mph positional velocity. At the plate Simpson starts from a square athletic stance, hands load back to separation, and a leg kick to stride landing on line. Quick hands through the zone with slight uphill tilt and displays pull side power to the swing. Simpson hit a double to deep left during our first day of games that would score two. He also put up a 94.78 mph average exit velo, which was the third best average Trackman exit velo during the BP session on the workout day. He is a high energy teammate and is vocal on the field and in the dugout.

Simpson is 6-1 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, slight load back. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, has a strength at contact point with extension through the ball, power potential, exit velocity was 91. In the infield, active feet, rounds the ball and fields with a good wide base and soft hands. Clean exchange, works through the ball, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, velocity was 79. Ran a 4.21 home to first.

Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, quick to the ball with a strong contact point and extension through the ball. Slightly uphill line drive swing with loft built in, has extra-base power to the gaps, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 89. In the infield, quick active feet, rounds ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands. Works through ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short quick arm action, infield velocity was 79. Ran a 7.28 60 yard dash.

 

 

Freshman Free Showcase 

 Simpson is 6-0 with a lanky athletic frame with a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, short stride on line, minimal load, hips rotate with some violence and completely, has some balance to his swing. Simple swing, short to ball, keeps hands inside, has some batspeed, slightly uphill line drive swing, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 86. At short, rounds ball aggressively and fields with above average hands and a good wide base. Works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 75. Ran a 4.13 home to first. On the mound, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm action that is quick and normal effort. Shoulders uphill and online, lands square with athletic finish. Fastball was 72-76, with run to it. Curveball was 61-63 with some armspeed and some late 11/5 break. Change-up was 66-68 with some armspeed and run to it.

 Simpson is 5-9 with a lanky frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short load back, explosive lower half and good balance to his swing. Short to ball, slightly uphill path, line drive swing, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 80. At short, shows some athleticism with his footwork, fields with a wider base and average hands, clean exchange. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 73.
