Recently our staff held a Pick 5 Fantasy Draft for all regions of the state. Jerry Shank, John Nolan, and Jason Burton made their picks in true fantasy draft fashion to reveal who are some of their favorite players in the respective region.

Here are our picks, in snake draft order, with a small quote detailing what stands out and a video from game action.

Shank's Picks:

Levi Huesman LHP / Hanover, VA / 2022

1st Overall Pick

"Levi has elevated his game so much in the past year that he should be considered one of the top high school left handed pitchers in the country. The arm is electric and still has more there while pitching 90-92 with a breaking ball that at times is pretty much unhittable."

Josiah Harrison OF / RHP / Trinity Episcopal , VA / 2022

6th Overall Pick

"Josiah has really climbed a lot of boards in the past year, making a big in game jump. The talent has always been there, for me it was the matter of consistently getting it to translate in game. And it definitely clicked last year. A strong high school season combined with a hot summer makes Josiah an interesting player to keep an eye on this spring."

Camden Nuckols RHP / 1B / St. Christopher's, VA / 2022

7th Overall Pick

"Cam quietly had one of the top statistical seasons on the bump at St. Chris last year. Imposing frame and life in the arm, Cam could be a contender for pitcher of the year this spring. The crazy thing is I think there is yet another level that Cam has yet to break into. When that happens, the sky's the limit."

Corey Adams SS / OF / Benedictine College Prep, VA / 2022

12th Overall Pick

"Corey has been one of my favorite players in the 2022 class. Natural athleticism and versatility, I think given the opportunity can be an impact player in college. The bat continues to play, I think he is only going to continue to climb."

Donavan Jeffrey 1B / RHP / Manchester, VA / 2025

13th Overall Pick

"Just watching this young man play gets me excited. I think the offensive ability has a chance to be extremely special as it's already immensely impressive at such a young age. He will have some bumps and bruises in his freshman year transitioning to the game, but I think Jeffrey will catch up quickly and will make a name for himself fast."

Burton's Picks:

Seth Keller SS / RHP / Hanover, VA / 2022

2nd Overall Pick

"Keller is a hard nosed competitor that can do it on the mound and at the plate. Last spring he was one of the catalysts for the state runner up Hawks. While sitting in the 88-91 range most of the time, he did get up to 93 mph with the fastball. Has feel for secondary, throws strikes, and can field his position. Has the arm and footspeed to stay up the middle and the bat shows the versatility to hit almost anywhere in the order."

Cannon Peebles C / RHP / Hanover, VA / 2022

5th Overall Pick

"Peebles has a shutdown arm behind the plate. He is a vocal leader on the field and plays with a high motor. The bat was the last piece to come along, as he has always been an elite catch and throw guy, but the NC State commit has made some huge jumps in the offensive department as well. The swing plays from the left side with the ability to hit for average and flash some juice as well."

Caleb Grizzard LHP / OF / Cosby, VA / 2022

8th Overall Pick

"Grizzard has a quiet confidence about his game. He leads by example and gets it done at the plate and on the mound. The ODU commit, while sitting mostly mid to upper 80's with the fastball, is one of the better "pitchers" in the state. He is efficient around the zone with an advanced feel for his secondary stuff. At the plate he has some pull side power that shows some middle of the order potential."

Luke Calveric RHP / 3B / Mills Godwin, VA / 2022

11th Overall Pick

“Calveric has been one of the gradual progression guys that you knew had a chance to make a big jump at some point. In addition to a big offensive and defensive spring at Godwin, he was lights out on the mound versus some big competition at LakePoint this summer, where his eventual future home, Radford, got to see him. Calveric is a high ceiling 2-way player that should continue to make gains as he matures physically.”

Brayden Simpson SS / OF / Cosby, VA / 2022

14th Overall Pick

"Cosby has a team full of energy guys and it kind of starts with Simpson. The 2020 Future Games alum and High Point commit has a big arm on the left side of the infield and a big bat to deal with in the middle of that Titans' order. Simpson is aggressive on the bases and plays the game hard. His style of play rubs off on his teammates and he is definitely a catalyst for the reigning 6A Region Champions."

Nolan's Picks:

Benjamin Santiago SS / RHP / Douglas Freeman, VA / 2022

3rd Overall Pick

"Macho is just a gritty hard-nosed player that can do it all. He hits for power and average from the left side with speed that can impact the game and he can also get up on the bump and show an upper 80s with some swing and miss to it."

Michael Joyce RHP / C / Atlee, VA / 2022

4th Overall Pick

“Joyce is a big time arm that in 2021 showed the ability to consistently work in the high 80s and touched up to 92 with a chance to still add a tick. Secondary stuff is promising and he has the ability to take over a game and dominate any time he is on the mound.”

Brian Curley RHP / 2B / Trinity Episcopal , VA / 2022

9th Overall Pick

“Curley has an athletic frame and a lightning quick arm that creates a dominant fastball/slider combination. The fastball works in the low 90s and was up as high as 93 in the fall of 2021 and the slider is consistently 80-83. He has very high spin on the fastball and the breaking ball has swing and miss potential, giving Curley the chance to pile up the strikeouts this spring.”

Ethan Brooks SS / 3B / Glen Allen, VA / 2022

10th Overall Pick

"Brooks is among the best pure infield defenders in Virginia and can anchor a defense at shortstop with his range, quick soft hands, and arm. Works gap to gap well at the top of a lineup and has quickness on the bases."

Clark Driscoll C / RHP / Clover Hill , VA / 2022

15th Overall Pick

“Driscoll is a versatile player that can help a team in many ways. He has a strong frame and is a great defender behind the plate with a quick release and a strong accurate arm. At the plate he has a short quick swing with some barrel feel and gap power present to all fields and the potential for more to his pull side. Driscoll can also jump up on the mound and contribute as well.”
