Recently our staff held a Pick 5 Fantasy Draft for all regions of the state. Jerry Shank, John Nolan, and Jason Burton made their picks in true fantasy draft fashion to reveal who are some of their favorite players in the respective region.
Here are our picks, in snake draft order, with a small quote detailing what stands out and a video from game action.

Nolan's Picks:

Andrew Shaffner OF / RHP / Grayson County , VA / 2022

1st Overall Pick

"Shaffner has the ability to be dominant on the mound with high velocity and spin as well as provide a middle of the line-up bat and speed on the bases and in the outfield."

Connor Fuhrman OF / SS / Lord Botetourt , VA / 2022

6th Overall Pick

"Fuhrman is a physical, athletic outfielder whose bat is his calling card. He is very strong and that translates into his swing where he has easy gap power to all fields with the chance to start accessing even more power in the future."

Jake Moore OF / 1B / Chatham, VA / 2023

7th Overall Pick

"Moore is just a flat out hitter. He has feel for the barrel and consistently hammers line drives to all parts of the field with extra base power to all fields and a chance to start accessing some home run power this spring as he continues to get stronger and develop. Real tough out who will hit for high average with occasional power."

Jerrod Jenkins RHP / C / Millbrook , VA / 2022

12th Overall Pick

"Jenkins is a big righty with a prototypical pitcher's frame who has shown that higher end fastball velocity. He is coming off of a 2021 season that saw him get a bunch of strikeouts for a Millbrook team that had a great season. He is a high spin guy on his fastball and breaking ball who has the stuff to dominate again this spring."

Noah Hertzler RHP / Broadway , VA / 2022

13th Overall Pick

"Hertzler is a big projectable righty with a fastball that was in the low 90s in 2021 and a higher spin breaking ball. Got a ton of swings and misses in 2021 and looks poised to do so again in 2022."

Burton's Picks:

Lance Williams RHP / SS / Page County , VA / 2023

2nd Overall Pick

"Extremely competitive, plays with some swagger, and has electric stuff. Can vary tempos and deliveries keeping hitters off balance. Was up to 94 mph last summer at Lakepoint, but generally works in the 88-91 range with feel for secondary."

Timothy "TJ" Brooks RHP / 3B / Miller School, VA / 2022

5th Overall Pick

"Talk about a young man that has made some jumps in the past twelve to eighteen months, Brooks is the definition of that. Works with intent, maintains velo pretty well, and has a really nice feel for the breaking ball. Definitely has a little Stroman to him with the way he displays confidence on the mound and attacks hitters. Sat 87-89 last summer at Lakepoint, and got up to 90-91 a few times."

Ethan Gibson SS / RHP / Abingdon, VA / 2023

8th Overall Pick

"Gibson is a Junior Future Games alum. First off, Gibson is a phenomenal young man. Humble, well mannered, and plays the game the right way. Gibson is a high level defender in the infield, shows doubles power at the plate, can handle the bat, and is a fierce competitor on the mound. Will generally work in the 85-88 range and flash a 89 every once in a while."

Carrington Aaron SS / 2B / Chatham, VA / 2023

11th Overall Pick

"Carrington plays with a different level of energy. Compact athletic frame, but plays bigger than his size. Doubles power in the gaps and a little extra to the pullside. Aaron is also a lockdown defender up the middle. Aaron is going to be a big piece this spring for a strong Chatham program."

John Glasscock RHP / Fluvanna County , VA / 2023

14th Overall Pick

"Glasscock is an electric arm that has big time stuff. In my opinion, he was easily the most impressive arm at the Future Games in 2020 and flashes of dominance on the mound."

Shank's Picks:

Heath Andrews RHP / SS / James River (Buchanan), VA / 2023

3rd Overall Pick

"Andrews was a big standout at the 2020 Future Games, showing a live arm (up to 92 mph) and athleticism. Plays with poise and maturity and has controlled aggression. I really like his upside and future as a player."

Dalton Wentz SS / RHP / Amherst County, VA / 2024

4th Overall Pick

"There is so much to like about Dalton. He's just a great young man and teammate. I love his passion for the game and competitive nature. Truly shows two way potential. There is a smoothness to his play that makes the difficult look routine at times, and being a young buck I think has a high ceiling on just how good he can become."

Tanner Thomas 3B / OF / Liberty Christian Academy, VA / 2022

9th Overall Pick

"Tanner is just a strong prospect across the board. Shows defensive versatility that you could move him around in a pinch, and is going to provide a steady bat with gap-to-gap ability and develop some strong power numbers. Steady player who has the makings to me as a person that you want in key situations. Great kid, I love the motor, and really see him as not only a good player, but a good leader also."

Luke Gouldthorpe RHP / OF / Jefferson Forest, VA / 2023

10th Overall Pick

"Ton of upside here in this talented RHP in Lynchburg. There is life in the arm with not a ton of effort, and the spin plays. Shows making of a strong rotation arm, but I think could also be a closer if need be. Don't think he is near his ceiling and there is a lot of reason to get excited about this young prospect."

Seth Buchanan SS / RHP / Lebanon, VA / 2023

15th Overall Pick

"What is great about Buchanan is I see a player who can do a little of everything for you and do it really well. I like his athleticism and defensive ability and the bat continues to get better and better which translates well to the next level. Can definitely pitch as well for you and will do well on the bump. True two way potential depending on the level and another one who is just great to be around. I'll take an energy giver every day."
