This spring we take a different approach to the unveiling of our Preseason Power25 teams across the commonwealth/DC. Instead of one full release, we will be doing a countdown starting today and running all the way to the beginning of the high school season. Over the course of the next 2.5 weeks, we will be counting down our preseason top 25.

VA/DC Preseason Power25: No. 16 - Battlefield

Top Players

aZach Agnos SS/RHP 2019 (East Carolina)
Carter Cunningham OF 2019 (Gardner-Webb)
Matt Michel RHP 2019 (East Stroudsburg, pictured)
Craig Miles Jr. OF 2019

X-Factor

Peter Benavides C 2020 - Benevides will assume the backstop duties this year for Battlefield, handling a talented pitching staff and could be the next chapter of a rich tradition of catching alumni this decade like Reese Varley, Nick Feight, and Tyler Solomon. Benevides hits for average while also showing some speed from behind the dish. His bat could definitely play a factor this season for the Bobcats as well as his ability to handle the staff and play his part in controlling their opponents running game.

Key Players Lost

Reese Varley
Jonah Seagears

Outlook

It looks like it is going to be another competitive season for the Bobcats, again showing a talented roster and some depth within a pitching staff that should keep the team in games this year. As in many years, the Bobcats will be paced by Zach Agnos both offensively, defensively, and on the mound. Agnos will assume the ace role once again and play high end defense from the short stop position while filling the middle of the lineup with his bat. This talented senior looks primed to have another excellent season for the Bobcats.

Offensively, Battlefield will be paced by Agnos and 2019 OF Carter Cunningham who will form an imposing middle of the order for the Bobcats. Craig Miles Jr. (pictured, right) will pace the top of the aorder with his sweet swing and speed to challenge opposing defense's while also manning centerfield for the Bobcats and making the outfield smaller with his athleticism and range. The aforementioned Benavides looks primed to have a nice season for the Bobcats taking over the catching spot and will add very quality bat who will hit for average and add occasional pop. Look for Jacob Lawler to handle the hot corner this year and build off nice contribution for Battlefield during his sophomore campaign.

The pitching staff again looks to be a team strength as well in 2019, Agnos will handle the role as staff ace while new face transfer Matt Michel returns to Battlefield for his senior season and should take the No. 2 spot. Agnos has an athletic, explosive frame, who brings a ton of intensity with his power arm in game while Michel poses a lanky and projectable frame with upside and a fastball that could climb as the season progresses. Back handling the back end of the staff is JT McGuire who will be a top reliever while also handling the closer role. The bobcats also look to have real nice depth on the mound with talented 2020's Colby Vollmer and Cole Snead who could see spot starts as well as be key relievers this season.

Another talented Bobcats team look poised for a very good 2019 spring and get our nod at No. 16 in the VA/DC Preseason Power25.
