This spring we take a different approach to the unveiling of our Preseason Power25 teams across the commonwealth/DC. Instead of one full release, we will be doing a countdown starting today and running all the way to the beginning of the high school season. Over the course of the next 2.5 weeks, we will be counting down our preseason top 25.

Virginia/DC Preseason Power 25: No. 25 - St. Christopher's Saints

Preseason Rank: 25
Level: VISAA D-I
Head Coach: Tony Szymendera
Playoff Run: VISAA D-I Champions

Top Players a

Damone Fleming OF 2019
Griff O'Ferrall IF 2021
Patrick Routsis RHP/3B 2019 (Old Dominion, Pictured)
Charlie Vozenilek P 2019

X-Factor

Charlie Vozenilek. The senior captain has always been a key arm for the Saints during his career and he will yet again need to have a big season as part of the 1-2 punch with Routsis to carry a young pitching staff this 2019 spring.

Key Players Lost

Hunter Andrews
Nick Biddison
Maddison Furman
Donovan Murphy

Outlook

The defending champs will have plenty of pieces to replace this 2019 spring, but look like they will have some key returners in place to make them a title contender this year. The Saints will have to find replacements for key pieces Hunter Andrews (Roanoke), Nick Biddison (Virginia Tech), and Maddison Furman (VCU), which will be very hard to find, but one constant yet again will be 2019 RHP/SS Patrick Routsis (ODU) who will be the ace on the mound and be a key cog in the middle of the order this season. Also on the mound for the Saints will be 2019 Charlie Vozenilek who has plenty of experience and will take over the No. 2 spot in the rotation for Furman.

Offensively it will be Routsis and 2021 SS Griff O'Ferrall leading the offensive charge as the main returners with experience. O'Ferrall had an impressive season in his freshman campaign and will look to build off of that this spring. Damone Fleming looks like he could be a key cog in the middle of the lineup this season as well after injury limited his 2018 spring. Josh Vanichkachorn could see time in the outfield also. The Saints do not bring much experience back to the squad apart from O'Ferrall and Routsis. Vozenilek could also see more at bats this season also as well as Tyler Ladin.

Losing 7 of 9 offensive starters from last year will make some movement and shifting around in the lineup early in the season to find the right piece, so don't be surprised if the Saints have a few up and downs early in the season and they attempt to find their new identity. There will have to be some new faces to stand up both on the mound and in the lineup. There could be some scuffles early, but we would not be surprised to see this team playing its best ball down the stretch, thus the defending VISAA D-I state champs get our nod at No. 25.
