We take a look at some video and notes on players from four teams that I saw on Monday.

Hickory

Ryan Barks RHP / C / Hickory , VA / 2025

The George Washington commit got the start for Hickory. Barks stayed mostly in the 80-82 range during his outing. Showed what appeared to be two different breaking balls, with a slower and bigger shaped curveball that sat at 67-68 mph. He leaned heavily on a slider, especially when needing a whiff/strikeout. The slider had more 11/5 shape at 70-71 mph and was able to throw it on the backfoot of left handers, as well as get chases from right handers.

Jacob Chadwell 1B / RHP / Hickory, VA / 2024

While Chadwell is thought of as an arm first in many circles, he had a strong day at the plate. The uncommitted junior hit a line drive out of left field in his first at bat and then would single through the left side in his next at bat. Square, squatted stance, and plenty of bat speed through the zone. If it were a positional take at the next level it would be 1B/Corner Outfield with some power potential in the bat.

WYATT SIMMONS RHP / OF / Hickory , VA / 2024

Simmons came on in relief of Barks. While the velo is not overpowering, he worked quick, attacked hitters, and was able to work out of some tough jams. The fastball sat at 77-79 mph and the curveball sat 65-67 mph with 11/5 shape. Higher leg lift, longer arm path, and there are a lot of moving parts coming at hitters. Control over command.

First Colonial

Quinton Adams OF / First Colonial, VA / 2023

Adams has a compact, 5-foot-9 frame with proportional strength. The senior outfielder jumpstarted the offense with a homerun in the first that tied things up. Adams would double off the fence in his next at bat. Later on he would barrel up another ball, but right at the second baseman. For the compact frame, Adams displays some raw strength that translates at the plate.

Nic Morlang RHP / OF / First Colonial, VA / 2025

I have been waiting to see the sophomore right hander since we last saw him in late summer at a scout day. Morlang came on with two outs in the sixth inning and got a big strikeout for FC. They got the lead in the bottom half and he came back out to finish the four-out save. The fastball was 80-83 with more 82-83 and then when he needed to finish a count, or wanted to challenge, he ran it between 84-86. Showed solid feel for the fastball to the glove side. Used a couple mid-70's changeups that faded and had some lift to them. The elbow dropped just a touch on these and he worked under it a little bit more. The slider was not shown until the last two or so hitters. The slider sat at 69-72 mph and had shorter shape. The arm works, projection left to the frame, and can see a solid jump in the future for Morlang.

James Proctor LHP / First Colonial, VA / 2023

6-foot-4 uncommitted left hander. Long limbs and still room to fill in the frame. Gets down the mound and lands closed at stride. Throws from a three-quarter arm slot and really closes the gap on hitters with his length and long limbs. The fastball stayed mostly in the 80-81 range and touched 82 twice. There was some occasional hard arm side run there and got some whiffs versus right handers. The slider was 70-71 mph with tight late downer shape.

Wes Stubbe MIF / First Colonial, VA / 2025

First time seeing Stubbe in game and there were definitely some things to like. Mature approach at the plate. Showed some patience and willingness to adjust in two strike counts. Shortened the approach and worked pitchers deep, including one of his final at bats that was a nine-plus pitch at bat. Did a nice job in a middle inning AB where he stayed inside a ball and lifted it to right center, only to be caught. I like the presence and offensive upside here. Going to be one to watch long term, especially as he adds strength.

For the next game there was not a ton of video, or notes for that matter. The majority of the offense was produced from walks and errors, minus a few hits here and there. Nansemond River took an early lead over Grassfield, stretching it to a 7-2 lead in the middle innings, but the Grizzlies would mount a comeback that was brought about by walks, errors, and one big clutch at bat in the bottom of the sixth. Jacob Bunch's three RBI double gave Grassfield a 8-7 lead that they would not give up.

Nansemond River

Aden Judge OF / RHP / Nansemond River , VA / 2024

Not much to touch on here, except for this is my first look at Judge this season. He was under the weather last time I saw Nansemond River a few weeks back. Judge walked in his first at bat and that was followed up with three hit by pitches the rest of the way. He got a few pitches in the zone that he swung through, but other than that, no takeaways from Monday's at bats.

Zachary Bronaugh 2023 RHP *Does not have a profile*

Bronaugh, an uncommitted senior, came on in relief for Wolfe. For two-plus innings he did a really nice job limiting the Grassfield offense. I would venture to guess he was anywhere between 60-75% breaking balls during his outing. There were very few fastballs thrown, no matter plus or minus counts. The spin was effective, getting whiffs in the zone, as well as chases out of the zone. Command of the breaker faded later, but he made some big pitches early on, allowing the Warriors to maintain a lead.

Grassfield

Jacob Bunch C / Grassfield, VA / 2023

Bunch had a huge week at Lakepoint this summer, which was a big stepping stone towards the recruitment to Coastal Carolina. First thing you notice is the physicality that he brings, as well as being a solid athlete for his size and frame. Bunch started in right field on Monday. At the plate it is a run production bat with middle of the order power. He had a loud barrel towards the middle innings, but it was a line out right at the third baseman. In his final at bat of the night Bunch showed the ability to go backside with a deep double to right field. His double cleared the bases and gave Grassfield the lead, a lead they would not relinquish.

Nyenati Snoh RHP / OF / Grassfield, VA / 2024

We first saw Snoh towards the end of the summer at the Tidewater Phillies Scout Day. Long, thin, room to fill, athletic, and a lot to like. Snoh came on in relief early and showed some flashes through the middle innings. The fastball velo was 78-81 and showed a low 70's changeup. He is a strike thrower that is not trying to overpower hitters. Easy, low effort delivery with more velo there. He is raw on the mound, but the athleticism, length, and room to fill out leaves some intrigue. The left handed hitter also had one of the few hits for either team. Had a single back through the middle in his first at bat. Similar to some attributes on the mound, his length and athleticism are intriguing positionally. There is some length in the swing and shows some adjustability.

Maddox Tsutsui SS / 2B / Grassfield , VA / 2023

Tsutsui has a compact frame, athletic defender, and versatile. Leadoff hitter for Grassfield that is a contact bat and will flash some occasional doubles power. He brings experience and instincts to the Grizzlies lineup. Made a nice dirt ball read late in the game to move up into scoring position. In the seventh he came in to close on the mound. Not an overpowering arm, but challenges and the athleticism transfers to the mound.
