Tuesday saw a big rivalry matchup in the Cedar Run District as Battlefield traveled to Patriot for their first meeting of the spring. Both teams went with committed starters, Battlefield going with sophomore lefty Sam Michel (Duke) and Patriot going with senior Jakob Foster (Mt. St. Mary's). Battlefield was able to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first as Foster had some command issues early and the Patriot defense allowed a couple of balls to fall in that extended the inning.

Battlefield extended again in the second and third, and was in danger of pulling away early until Patriot responded by taking advantage of some errors with a 3-run home run off the bat of Kam Mahoney, making it 7-4 after three innings. Battlefield then blew the doors open in the fourth and fifth, opening the lead up to 12-4. Patriot tried to claw back into it in the bottom of the fifth, scratching two runs and leaving the bases loaded with a 12-6 deficit after five.

The Bobcats added two more runs in the sixth and cruised to a 14-6 win over their rivals and moving into second place in the Cedar Run District.

Garrett Camp 3B / RHP / Battlefield, VA / 2026

Camp is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some room to add strength. Played third in the game, showed some good first step quickness and soft hands defensively. Made a few nice plays to glove side, has good rhythm and arm is at least average right now with potential to be stronger, showed accuracy on his throws. At the plate, hits from the right side from a slightly open, wider balanced athletic stance. Hands stay in tight and inside the ball, takes them straight to contact, slightly uphill path with some strength at contact. Line drive hitter, showed a pull approach in the game with some present doubles power already present. A pretty good place to be as a freshman, not phased by the moment in what is always a very intense atmosphere between these two.

Sam Michel LHP / Battlefield, VA / 2025

Michel is a Duke commit and is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some strength present in the lower half. Simple drop and drive delivery, shoulders are level and closed, some crossfire in it, hides the ball a bit. Long, loose arm action from a very low three-quarters arm slot, normal to easier effort. Fastball was 82-84, touching 86, pitch has a bit of late two-plane action, some late run to armside and sink. Best pitch was his slider, which threw with more intent than his fastball. Pitch was 74-75 with late sharp 2/8 break, got swings and misses down. Showed ability to land it for strikes and bury it down at a righthander's feet, pitch has a chance to be swing and miss. Also showed a change-up that had some armspeed and was 75-76 with a bit of late fade. Threw a couple of big curveballs at 64 that had gradual 1-7 break.
