Last Friday, Fauquier and Kettle Run faced off in their regular season finale and the latest edition of the Battle for Warrenton. Both teams started righthanders in the game, Fauquier going with junior Hunter Gray and Kettle Run going with senior Damen Tapscott (Eastern Mennonite).

Fauquier's offense came out hot in the top of the first. A flare fell in for a leadoff single then a walk and HBP loaded the bases with no outs for the Falcons. Freshman Bo Finkbeiner opened the scoring with a 2-RBI single. Another run scored on a wild pitch and Fauquier made it 4-0 in the top of the first when Gray helped his cause, getting a safety squeeze down.

Kettle Run started chipping away right away, scoring one in the bottom of the first and picking up another in the third. The flood gates opened in the fourth as the Cougars tied the game and took the lead, with big blows coming on an RBI double from Sam Linebaugh and the game-tying RBI on a pinch hit single by Ty Thorpe.

Jacob Mulhern would come on in relief of Tapscott and made the lead stand up over the last three innings, as the Cougars continued to add runs, ultimately winning the game by a final score of 9-4.

Fauquier

Bo Finkbeiner 1B / 3B / Fauquier, VA / 2026

Finkbeiner is 6-2 with a strong frame. That strength shows at the plate, he is very simple and quiet with his set-up, very short to contact and has some whip through the ball. Strength creates a pretty fast bat, uphill through contact and the ball jumps off of his bat some. Will show present gap power with more to come, chance to put up some big power numbers at some point. Played third in this game and was fine there.

Kettle Run

Sam Linebaugh OF / Kettle Run, VA / 2025

Linebaugh has an athletic 6-1 frame. Moves pretty well in the outfield and on the bases. Hits from the right side, short stride and load, hips fire quickly and he has good strong lower half at contact. Short to contact, level to slightly uphill path with some quickness in his bat, also gets good extension through the ball. Gap to gap line drive hitter with extra base power to all fields.

Jacob Mulhern RHP / OF / Kettle Run, VA / 2025

Mulhern has an athletic frame, still a bit of room to add strength to it, but its a decent pitcher's build right now. Drop and drive delivery, works on line after his rocker step and pivot, has some fall off in his finish. Short quick arm action from a higher three-quarters arm slot, some late intent and explosiveness in his delivery. Fastball was 80-82, gets some late boring action and a bit of sink to it as well. Slider was outstanding, flashing swing and miss when down to glove side. Pitch was 73-75 with late hard 11/5 break to it. Control more than command presently, but fills up the zone.

Tyler Thorpe 2B / RHP / Kettle Run, VA / 2025

Thorpe is 6-0 with a stronger athletic frame, there is a chance he keeps growing. Appeared in the game as a pinch hitter in an RBI spot, showed a good approach for that role, attacking the first hittable pitch he got for a line drive single to right-center. Balanced athletic stance, short stride and load, short path, slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing with a chance to show some power in the gaps.
