Tuesday night saw a late-season Northwestern District showdown and potential preview of a game we could see deep in the Region 3B Tournament as William Monroe traveled to take on Brentsville District. Both teams started junior righthanders, with Monroe going with Lance Williams and Brentsville going with Coleson Russell

Williams ended up being the story of the night, working through a few jams early before ultimately settling in and dominating, going the distance in a 2-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and only 1 walk, although he did hit 4 batters. On the other side of the field, Russell worked into and out of trouble early, allowing 2 runs in the second on a 2-RBI single to Williams, but he and reliever Charlie Monfort were able to escape jams in the first, second, and fourth with Monroe leaving the bases loaded in all 3 of those innings and only opening up a 2-0 lead. 2-0 was all Williams needed, Monfort was outstanding in 3.1 innings of relief, striking out 5 against no walks with just 3 hits allowed. Brentsville did get the winning run to the plate in the seventh, but Williams got his twelfth strikeout on a slider at the top of the zone to end the game.
