On Sunday, October 25, over 190 players from all corners of the Commonwealth and DC descended on Lynchburg to take part in our inaugural VA/DC State Games. Games and workouts were held at two sites, City Stadium and Liberty University, today we highlight a few players who stood out from Teams 5 and 6, who played at Liberty University:

Team 5

Gavin Brunsman 3B / 2B / Bishop Ireton, VA / 2022

Brunsman continues to impress throughout this 2020. Lanky and projectable frame screams that there is more upside to be had. Showed excellent lateral quickness and soft hands defensively. Showed a smooth swing at the plate with bat speed and showed real feel for the barrel in the games. Really lied what I saw.

Clark Driscoll C / RHP / Clover Hill , VA / 2022

Driscoll continues to shine this summer as a player that is going to make a program happy. Real feel for the barrel who will handle velo and showed ability to sread ball around the field. Has some versatility defensively, but excels with a quick and confident pop that was consistet sub 2.

Tyler Sparrer C / 1B / Auburn, VA / 2022

Sparrer is another who has continued to show development behind the dish. Growing into his mature physical frame, Sparrer showed a real ability as a receiver nehind the plate and has pop on the offensive end. Throws show great carry.

Cam Mazell 1B / OF / Clover Hill , VA / 2022

Mazell continues to get better on the offensviel end, showing a more aggressive nature that was lacking previously. The hands work well with some extension and strength that is becoming more present. Thought he took some really good aggressive swings and made loud contact. Hands are short and direct and shows more there. Think could be a sleeper offensive weapon down the road.

Evan Bert RHP / 3B / Harrisonburg , VA / 2022

Pleasantly surpsied getting to lay eyes on Bert for the first time.. Has a strong frame with room to add to . Pitches with regular effort and baseball showed life out of hand. Breaking ball showed potential to a be a good pitch  and Bert still has plenty of ceiling to reach. Ran it up to 86 on a cold and miserable day.

Joshua Rivera RHP / OF / Heritage , VA / 2022

Rivera played as a two way talent at the event, but I want to double clikc on his ability on the mound. Again, it was a unpleasant day in term of weather, but thought Rivera looked good as usual. Pretty loose and athletic arm action. Good life on the fastball that was 82-85, and we have seen up to 88 over the summer. Breaking ball will play at the next level with a good spin rate up to 2455 via Trackman baseball.

Michael Dailey OF / Prince Edward, VA / 2022

Daily might have had my favorite offensive day of the event and you could argue he might be one of the top bats still available in the 22 class. Balanced set up with a strong frame. Hands are direct and free that show no problem hitting the ball around the field, or driving it to pull side. What stood out to me the most was how improved his balanced had got at the dish along  showing ability to get good barrel on the ball in al most all his at-bats.

Brian Curley RHP / 2B / Trinity Episcopal , VA / 2022

Curley has a compact frame with an quick arm and fastball that produces plenty of uncomfortable swings. In the cool mist, Curlyey got his best velo in front of our PBR staff, topping out at 89 on the day with a spin rate just shy of 2400 via Trackman. Breaking ball has late life on the pitch that he uses well to compliment the fastball. What I like most about Curley is his mindset on the mound with an aggressive, attacking mentality and he did not disappoint.

Its very tough to single out only a few from a very talented group. other top performers for me included Jack Griese, John Simmons, Jacob Miller Bopp, In summation, pretty much the entire teams from 5 and 6.

Team 6

Jerry Barnes III C / 3B / First Colonial, VA / 2022

Barnes has quietly grown into a real nice back stop prospect. Excellent receiver with a fast exchange and accurate throws with carry. Can flat out gtet rid of the ball. Athletic and projectable frame who shows power potential at the plate and present strength.

Carter Schmitt C / OF / St. Christopher's, VA / 2022

really liked the approach Schmitt showed at the plate ths event.  Showed barrel control at the plate with some strength to pull side. Showing maturity and discipline having shown nice grouwth since the last time we saw him. Continues to get better.

Luke Calveric RHP / 3B / Mills Godwin, VA / 2022

An injury slowed Calverics summer which was unfortunate as any injury over the summer can make things tough. Seeing him back in action was great to see and also to him him stronger and continuing to climbas he grows into that projectable frame. Long arm and leg with a longer arm action, the ball came out well to the tune of 84-86, and he event got up to 88 at our scout day with his organization later in the week. Calveric still has room to grow and will continue to do so, will definitely be one to keep any eye on.

Kai Leckszas SS / RHP / Woodrow Wilson, VA / 2022

Another who impressed with our first look, Leckzas got on my eyes after talking with our Oklahoma director  after seeing him this summer while playing with a St. Louis based organization. He did not disappoint as leckszas shows and strong frame with room to grow and add to. cVery sound defensive ability and upside on the mound. Athetic arm with not a lot of effort ad was up to 87 on the day. Breaking ball should get better as it gets  alittle more velo to it, but already is a solid pitch. One to kee an eye on out of our nations capital.

Josh Hand OF / SS / Independence, VA / 2022

Hand is another that has continued to get better. Really showed how he has been filling out the frame. At the plate its a balance set up woith a simple stroke and projects as a middle of the order type bat who should hit plenty of doubles. Like the speed and arm strenth as he did well with both, gettting up to 86 from outfield and ran a  6.75.

Jason Mendler OF / LHP / Flint Hill, VA / 2022

Strong athletic frame with some quick twitch and intent in everything he does. Short direct stroke with some length through contact that shows ability to drive ball and potential for more. Some strong statistics posted with 87 mph outfield velo and 88 mph exit velo.

Sullivan Holmes RHP / OF / Liberty Christian Academy, VA / 2022

Long and lanky frame, Holmes has continued to improve showing a fastball that was up to 88 on the day with more in the tank. Lose and free arm action that generates nice velocity with light effort. He repeats well and shows nice athleticism on the bump that shows a high ceilling.  Shortly after the event, Holmes made his pledge to Liberty Univeristy.

Anthony Gabello RHP / 1B / Hanover, VA / 2022

Gabello is another who dd not waste much time after the event to make his commitment. The physical RHP is young for his grad year and shows plenty of more potential down the road. Strength is already present with his fastball that has been up to 90 mph already. Att he State games, Gabello was up to 88 mph. Easy effort and a bright future.
