VA/DC Unsigned Senior Games Pitchers Part 2

On Wednesday, August 10, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted its Unsigned Senior Games for members of the Class of 2017 at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland. 54 players took part in the event and over a dozen colleges were present, representing NCAA Divisions I, II, and III. Over the coming weeks, we will break down each player’s performance. Yesterday, we began with the first group of pitchers, here is the second group:

Ty Hicks, LHP, Powhatan
Hicks has an athletic 6-2 frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Short arm action with normal effort. Shoulders down and closed as strides to a closed landing, slight crossfire with a slight fall off finish. Fastball sat 74-76, touching 77, with late sink and some run. Curveball had 1/7 break, running 60-63.

Travis Huisman, SS/RHP, Fairfax
Huisman has a lanky 6-2 frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. Short, loose arm action is quick with normal effort. Shoulders closed and level and he lands open. Fastball sat 76-77 with slight run. Slider had sharp 10/4 break and good armspeed, running 68-70. Slurve had 11/5 break, running 66-68.

Will Jewell, RHP, Robinson
Jewell has an athletic 6-1 frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Short, quick arm action generates velocity with some effort. Shoulders uphill and closed, slight fall off finish with recoil. Fastball sat 80-83 with hard run. Slider had late 11/5 action with decent armspeed, sitting 74-75, and was commanded well. Change-up was 73-74.

Justin Keller, RHP, Robinson
Keller is 6-4 and has a lankier frame, throwing from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Short arm action generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and he strides on line to a square landing with a slight fall off finish and recoil. Fastball sat 77-78 and had slight late run. Slider had 10/4 break and was 56. Change-up was 70.

Jared Kercher, OF/RHP, Atlantic Shores Christian
Kercher is 6-0 and has a lankier athletic frame, throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Short arm action generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders level and uphill as he strides to an athletic finish. Fastball sat 75-77, touching 78, with late sink. 12/6 curveball was 62-64. Hard sinking splitter with decent armspeed was 66. Sharp 11/5 slider at 66.

Ryan Miles, RHP, Woodgrove
Miles has an athletic 6-0 frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Short, loose arm action is quick and generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders slightly uphill and closed as he strides to an open landing with fall off finish. Fastball sat 84-85, touching 86 and was heavy with slight run and downward plane. Outstanding curveball with sharp, power 12/6 break and good armspeed at 72. Splitter with decent armspeed and armside run was 75-77.

Clay Naff, LHP/1B, Atlee
Naff is 6-3 with an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Short arm action generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders closed and slightly down as he strides to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball had good angle and was 74-76. Curveball had sharp 1/7 break and good armspeed, running 67-68. Good armspeed on straight change-up at 73. Good pitchability and feel of all three pitches.

RJ Payne, LHP/1B, William Monroe
Payne is 6-0 and has an athletic frame, throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot with a tall and fall delivery. Short, quick arm action generates velocity with some effort. Shoulders are closed as he strides to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 77-78, touching 80 with good command. Sharp 12/6 curveball with good armspeed and command was 67-69.

Josh Pittman, RHP, Highland School
Pittman has a lanky 6-0 frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Short, loose arm action that is quick and generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders level and closed as he strides to a closed landing with a fall off finish. Fastball sat 84-85, touching 86, with hard late run. Curveball had sharp 11/5 break and good armspeed, running 70-71. Showed good command of both pitches.

James Price, RHP, Patriot
Price is 5-11 and has a lankier athletic frame, throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot with smooth drop and drive delivery. Long, loose arm action that is quick with some effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed and he lands square with an athletic finish and recoil. Fastball sat 84-85 with late run. Late-breaking sharp 11/5 curveball with good armspeed was 68-73. Outstanding change-up with good armspeed and fade was 73-76. Showed good command off all three pitches.
