VA/MD State Games: 2022 Breakdown

In early November, over 140 players from Virginia, DC, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina descended on War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Virginia to take part in the 2021 VA/MD State Games. We begin our detailed breakdown of the event with the 2022s.

 

 

Sean Aronson C / RHP / Kellam, VA / 2022

6-foot-2, 190-pound solid proportional build. Recorded a time of 7.45 in the 60-yard dash. Begins in a balanced open stance with a controlled rhythmic load, then uses a controlled small leg kick. Bat speed was quick efficient, displayed a short simple swing plane and high good extension on his finish. He found multiple barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Confident during batting practice, Aronson had an exit velocity of 91 mph. (70.3 mph bat speed average). (22.8 mph hand speed average). Behind the plate, he recorded a position velocity of 72 mph during throw downs; showed athletic in control feet, consistent sure hands, and a fluid transfer. had a pop time of 2.05-2.13. Some flexibility and athletic clean setup. Using a quick arm action, showed consistent accuracy to the bag from a high ¾ slot.

 

 

Andrew Brown OF / SS / Manchester , VA / 2022

5-foot-10, 160-pound projectable athletic build. Smooth during batting practice, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 90 mph. (64.4 mph bat speed average). (20.6 mph hand speed average). Began in an athletic open stance with a rhythmic load, then used a controlled small leg kick. Bat speed is efficient present, has a short upward swing plane and high good extension on his finish. During his round he produced some loud contact and found some barrels. Gap to gap approach. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.32.

 

 

Jaden Guthrie SS / 2B / Forest Park, VA / 2022

Grambling State Commit, 5-foot-10, 160-pound projectable athletic frame. Smooth confident in the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 84 mph. (65.4 mph bat speed average). (20.0 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced quiet stance with a controlled active load, then uses a controlled toe tap stride. Bat speed was efficient quick, showed a short level swing plane and high balanced finish. He barreled up multiple balls with loud contact. Tough out gap to gap approach. Confident athletic in the infield, his position velocity was registered at 78 mph; showed athletic smooth feet, a quick clean exchange, and soft consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a quick consistent arm action and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.08.

 

 

Graham Jones 2B / 3B / Colonial Forge, VA / 2022

6-foot, 195-pound sturdy physical build. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.16. Begins in a balanced strong stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a short controlled stride. Bat speed is flashed explosive, exhibits a flat upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Had some loud contact and found some barrels. Aggressive approach. Solid capable at the plate, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 93 mph. (73.5 mph bat speed average). (20.2 mph hand speed average). Solid confident in the infield, displayed a velocity of 81 mph; had sure firm hands, consistent in control footwork, and a natural exchange. Fielded the ball out front with average movement laterally. From a ¾ slot, showed consistent accuracy to the base with a firm arm action. 

 

 

Trent Judd RHP / OF / Salem, VA / 2022

6-foot-4, 190-pound lengthy projectable build. Solid projectable on the mound, used a consistent arm action with a high ¾ arm angle while showing quick consistent arm speed. Tilt-and-topple type pitcher and uses some effort. Even shoulders with an consistent balance point. Lands square with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 80-82 mph with a max of 83 mph; has tailing action and command decent around the zone with flat movement. (Max spin 2221; Avg 2077). His 11/5 curveball (69-73) had control around the zone and gradual action. (Max spin 2027; Avg 1896). His changeup (75-76) shows arm side control and some fading action.

 

 

Andrew Wolf SS / OF / Northern York, PA / 2022

5-foot-9, 160-pound mature solid frame. Solid above average in the box, Wolf clocked an exit velocity of 87 mph (67.9 mph bat speed average) (23.3 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance with a quick active load, then used a quick small leg kick. Bat speed is efficient, displays a long loose swing plane and high balanced finish. Had some loud contact and found some barrels. Up the middle approach. Solid in the infield, his best throw was recorded at 79 mph; shows a natural exchange, consistent hands, and in control feet. Movements laterally were developing and he fields the ball out front. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.26.
