Class 4

Lafayette 9, Riverside 8

The Lafayette Rams defeated the Riverside Rams with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take home the VHSL Class 4 title Friday afternoon.

It was a back and forth game, as Riverside was able to jump out to an early 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning. Lafayette would respond in the bottom of the second, getting five runs of their own. All in all, there were four lead changes in the game as Riverside took the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh, led by a pinch hit RBI triple from Ryan Murray with two out. Murray would score on a Sajon Belser single the following at bat, making the score 8-7 Riverside. 

Lafayett would respond in the bottom of the inning, getting lead off hitter Ozzie Torres on base with an HBP. after two outs, a walk would keep the scoring chances alive with two on. A double steal would put runners at second and third with two outs, and Thomas McLaughlin would then hit a ground ball that turned into an error which would allow both runners to score and end the game.

Carson Swank and John Heltebran led the Riverside offense, with two hits and an RBI apiece. Patrick Sheffield added a hit and two RBI.

Ricky Sullivan and Torres led Lafayette with two hits apiece while Torres added two RBI. south McDowell also had one hit and two RBI.

Class 3

Fluvanna 16, Tabb 10

The Fluvanna Flucos offense came to play in the Class 3 championship game as tthe Flucos put up 16 runs on 18 hits and held off the comeback attempt from the Tabb Tigers to take the Class 3 Championship by a score of 16-10.

Fluvanna jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after the first and would extend that to 9-0 after three. by the fifth inning, the Flucos were out to a 15-4 lead. Jacob Critzer came up with another big fly, his second in two days for Fluvanna, this time a two run shot. Kevin Ward followed Critzer with a solo shot in the third inning.

Tabb was able to mount a comeback with three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh, but they were never able to truly get back into the game after The Fluvanna early lead.

Joel Martin paced the Tabb offense with a 2-for-4 day and four RBI. Brandon Marello was 2-for-3 (HR, 3-RBI), and Zach Coldsnow was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Andrew Ward led the fluco offense going 5-for-6 on the day with three RBI. Kevin Ward added a 3-for-5 day with four RBI. Kyle Algieri went 3-for-4 with three RBI as well.
