Class 6 Championship

No. 1 James Madison 2, No. 3 Colgan 1

Class 4 Championship

No. 18 Broad Run 3, No. 4 Hanover 2
The Spartans jumped out to a 2-0 lead early, extended it to 3-0 in the middle innings, and then hung on at the end to capture the State Championship. In the second inning, a leadoff double by Tyler Morley started the early two-run rally, and it was aided by a pair of Hanover errors. The third run by Broad Run also scored on an error, with the rally being keyed by a Jake Flicker leadoff walk. Hanover closed the gap in the sixth when Seth Keller (Old Dominion) popped a 2-run home run. The game ended when reliever Ethan Walker picked the tying runner off of first base. Connor Hale (Villianova) was spectacular for Broad Run, going 6.2 IP, 2 R, 1 H, 5 K, 5 BB. Levi Heusman (Coastal Carolina) essentially matched him for Hanover, going the distance as well,6 IP, 3 R, 1 H, 6 K, 3 BB, with 3 Hanover errors ultimately doing the Hawks in.

 

Class 3 Championship

Independence 6, No. 9 Abingdon 3
The Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning and then hung on as the Falcons scored three and loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh before Bryce Dolby (Ole Miss) was able to end the game with a pair of strikeouts. Jack McDonald (East Carolina) and Bradley Gagen (Tennessee) combined to throw six scoreless innings to open the game for Independence. Josh Hand was 4-4 with a HR, 2B, and 2 RBI and Brandon Clarke (Alabama) was 2-4 with a 2B and an RBI for Indy. Chase Hungate (VCU) threw a complete game for Abingdon and had 2 BBs and 2 RBI at the plate while Luke Francisco (Carson-Newman) went 1-2 with 2 BB for the Falcons.

 

Class 2 Championship

No. 7 Lebanon 10, Poquoson 1
This game was a 1-1 tie until the bottom of the fifth, when the Pioneers hung nine runs and blew it open, with a Tanner Keys 3-run double the big blow in the rally and Nick Belcher and Anthony Houchins capping it off with back to back home runs. The star of the game was senior lefty Matt Buchanan (Virginia), who went the distance, allowing 1 R on 4 H with 14 K while also going 2-3 at the plate. Houchins and Belcher each finished with 2 hits as well. Poquoson starter Maxim Fritts was strong in the first 4 innings, allowing 1 R before being charged with 1 run in the fifth, allowing 3 H total. Josh Markley was 2-3 with a 2B for the Islanders.

 

 

Class 1 Championship

Auburn 5, Essex 2
Auburn jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of a Damian Boyd RBI single and a Reed Underwood 2-RBI double. Underwood also threw 5 scoreless innings to open the game as the Eagles opened up a 5-0 lead, and he ultimately went 6.2 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 3 K in the win. Mike Royal was also 2-3 and Tyler Sparrer had 2 RBI for Auburn. Holdyn Ambrose (Bridgewater) went 4.1 IP in relief, allowing 1 R on 1 H with 3 K while also going 1-3 with a BB for Essex.
