Westfield Captures Region Title in Pitcher's Duel

Friday night saw a rematch of the Concorde District championship game a rivalry showdown between Centreville and Westfield in the Region 6D Championship game. Sophomore LHP Nick Lottchea and Senior RHP Danny Leo combined for 11 strikeouts as Westfield logged its 16th shutout of the season, winning the game 2-0. 

Lottchea went 5 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, 0 runs and Leo pitched the 6th and 7th innings, allowing 2 hits, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts and 0 runs. Westfield, which only had 3 hits, was led by Sophomore Kevin Mackmin who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Centreville was equally tough on the mound posting 11 strikeouts and limiting Westfield to 3 hits. Senior RHP Hunter Bell (VCU) went 4.1 innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Sophomore Casey Bach relieved Bell for the last 1.2 scoreless innings. Bach posted 3 strikeouts, 0 walks, 0 hits, 0 runs. Junior Gavin Collins led Centreville with 2 hits, both doubles.

Both teams will advance to the State Tournament, with Westfield taking a 22-3 record into it. Westfield will host Region 6C Runner-up West Springfield on Tuesday and Centreville will travel to 6C Champ Lake Braddock for their State Quarterfinal games.
